Parents Will my daughter be on the track?

I have a daughter who recently turned 9 years old. Currently she is competing level 4 NGA and want her to move to the USAG track cause my daughter’s goal is to do college gymnastics. She recently got assessed and got invited to do a trial with a level 3 team on the USAG track. If she is 9 and will need to compete level 3, will she still be on track? I do not know too much about gymnastics. I just want to provide my daughter with a chance to reach her goals. Is she stays at her current gym, I know my daughter won’t even come close. Please help. Any insight would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

On track is a hard thing to answer. The best thing you can do is provide the opportunity to train with good coaching and see what happens.

Yes a 9yr old girl in L3 has a chance at some level of college gymnastics. Remember this is a long road with lots of bumps. If a coach is saying she can trial at a USAG team, then she has some potential. Whether that turns into a long term USAG career that ends in college - who knows.

Oh and don't worry if she's L3 or L4 this coming year. USAG has differences from NGA and the critical factor is making sure she has the right conditioning and skill base to advance when the time comes. And DONT rush it. Sometimes it is better to be a near-ready L4 and compete in L3 than to be struggling at L4...

Thank you for your reply! It really helps! My daughter will be doing her trial practice with L3 at a USAG gym. When she had her assessment the gym said that she basically has all of her L4 skills. She just needs to work on her kip on the high bar. I know for sure this gym will work on her form and technique which her current gym cannot provide.

This gym has been known for their gymnasts to get full college scholarships to top universities.

My daughter was L3 at 9. She started gymnastics at 8 and has not skipped any levels. L7 now and could potentially be L10 by 10th grade which is borderline but possible for college gym. Or she could quit next year. Ha. So many unknowns.

Yes, it's possible. Especially if the gym has experience getting kids to NCAA. It's a long and hard road getting to collegiate gymnastics. Of the 12 kids that were in my DDs L4 group, only 5 were still in the sport till graduation. 3 were event specialists by their senior year due to injuries that prevented them from competing some events. 1 had the opportunity to compete in college in D3 (this was my DD and while very talented, she was not the most talented in her original L4 group).
