This is interesting to me since track and field added a mixed 4x400 relay. However, the country gets to pick the team competitors. In the USA with its depth of running the members qualifying for finals are usually lower level runners say the 3rd - 5th place finishers from Olympic trials. But...
My daughter is planning to go to a summer abroad for the month of July at Hong Kong Baptist University. She was hoping to find a gymnastics gym near by to train some while she is there. She is a D3 gymnast and is hoping to train a little bit before fall. Does anyone have any idea of gyms in...
I guess what I am thinking is that D1 will become more competitive. So it might just be that most athletes are at the elite level to get onto a D1 team. Most gymnasts are not at the elite level which in my humble opinion, once you have gone elite even for two to three years you are basically a...
I guess I have very mixed feelings about this. I miss the good old days of being a good to great athlete that works hard, could make a college team, get the college team experience, contribute to the team from a competitive stand point, and create lasting friendships. Perhaps they were not a...
Increasing the popularity of college gymnastics especially at the D1 level with all the super talented athletes is a good thing for the whole gymnastics community. The inconsistent judging will however drive them away. I know when meets are on the main sports channels and even NBC, the...
You could also see if the school you are going to has a club gymnastics team. The club teams compete all different levels. You might have to pay something to help the club out, but it would not be as much as a JO club team. I think you practice 2-4 times a week depending on the club but it is...
I will give you another one. My daughter had a horrible couple of years during the covid years. She was a sophomore in high school when her L9 season got cut short and she was starting to train L10 once everyone got back in the gym. Her school was still closed and was doing online school. She...
Thanks for this. I am trying not to be "that parent" that complains about scoring every time her kid gets a low score. But at one duel meet (D3) my daughter had a very clean floor routine and got a 9.5. It seemed low to me but I thought ok the judges are being tough, fair enough. Three of her...
Thanks for your reply and thoughts. What I have seen at some of the D3 meets is sometimes pretty big differences from judges on the same routine, lots of different start values, and sometimes questionable high scores. I realize in D1 that might be less noticeable, especially with the top...
Maybe you could pick up rock climbing or other sport that gymnasts are good at! I know rock climbing can also be expensive, but I am sure it will be less than gymnastics.
I am quite sure that the roster size cap of 20 athletes will effect recruiting. Although technically D1 rosters are not limited to 20 athletes this year, I find most D1 teams don't have much more than that anyway. I think with D3 schools not having to follow these new rules, many potential walk...
I am curious to find out how the judging evaluations have turned out. Will there be a report? From what I know all routines for all divisions of women's gymnastics (D1, D2, and D3) over a 9.0 are videoed and sent in to a review panel to "judge" the judges. My daughter is at a D3 school and...
I didn't really have a way to contact you since when I tried to get to any post or message I got an error. I thought about it and almost sent you a message through facebook but just didn't. I am glad it magically resolved!
I have not been able to get into Chalk Bucket for a couple of months now on my computer which is where I use it the most. I didn't know if it was on my end or Chalk Bucket's end, but I just thought I would try this morning and I was able to get in. At first, I got the error message, then I...
