Even with rest and PT, my daughter’s patellar tendinitis did not improve. She is 15 and lvl 8. She would likely have moved to 9 but has been held back due to having to sit out training because of her knee. After X-rays and an MRI, it was determined that she was a good candidate for the Tenex...
Our gym is on the very low side. Our levels 7-9 train only 14.5 hours per week. But, we also do not have TOPS or Hopes or anyone beyond level 9 right now. The girls do well at meets as well as states and regionals. Training groups are kept small, so there is very little downtime. It seems...
DD's team plays games at the end of practice on Fridays. The girls love them as it is a great way to have some fun after a hard week of practice. The games always have a conditioning element to them. They are fun for the parents and the girls. I don't mind that some of the time I've paid for...
Our L4 and L5 teams practice 9 hours. It seems a bit low compared to what I see on here, but we do seem to place well at meets. I am thankful that they can do well with only three days a week practice. It gives us more family time and flexibility with schoolwork.
http://www.goody.com/Products/Hair_Accessories/Simple_Styles_Spin_Pin We use Goody spin pins. DD's gym requires a bun, and with her hair being very fine and past her waist, these are a must. I put her hair in a ponytail, braid it and wrap it around into a bun. I then use the spin pins with a...
It definitely depends on the gym. Last year in old L4, DD's ROBHS was questionable durings warm ups at a meet, and her coaches had her compete without the skill. The rest of the routine was beautiful and she scored a 9.1. Perhaps it depends on the region?
As others have said, I might ask...
I can do a handstand hold on floor and get to vertical on floor beam, a pretty good cartwheel and round off, and that's about it. A few years ago, I could still do a front handspring, but I'm afraid to try now. I would love to do an adult class someday. Like others have said, I miss being in...
Only one DD in gymnastics L4, but I also have a DS in premier level soccer. His fees are almost as much as gymnastics. He has more games than she has meets, but he has fewer hours of practice. Poor child #3 who just gets dragged around to practices, meets and games! Not looking forward to...
Our gym starts using grips around new L4, but it is individually based. For example, DD recently went to see the pediatrician for an unrelated matter and when the dr saw DD's hands, she gasped. I explained that she is a gymnast. The dr is a former gymnast and the mother of a gymnast. She...
Thanks for all the helpful hints. So far, she is enjoying herself and has gotten some new skills. I'm going to watch her practice tomorrow (camp is less than an hour away). I'm hoping that won't make her homesick!
DD is 7, a (new) level 4, and is going to gymnastics camp for the first time. She is rooming with a teammate and will have some other girls from her gym at the camp. From those experienced parents, what are some helpful hints for what to pack or not pack that might not be obvious, ideas for...
