Hi, I am hoping to compete level 7 next season, but I have some problems with my cast to handstand. I have made it to handstand about 3 times before, each a few months apart. Each time I make one, I can't do another one for a long time. Another thing I have trouble with is coming back to the...
Is it pretty much a given that if a gymmie can't do a press handstand then she won't be able to do a straddle cast handstand on bars either? I definitely see how feeling the form of and having the strength to do a press hs would help in getting a straddle cast hs, but is it more than just...
My daughter seems to be having difficulty keeping her one leg straight on a cast straddle handstand on bars. Does anyone know why this might happen? It is always her left leg. She thinks it is straight but it is consistently bent when she casts and moves to the straddle (looks like a frog...
We have in the past year made the switch to JO and I have seen a vouple times athletes doing straddle up casts in compulory levels 4 and 5- between 45 degrees and handstand.
Judges- should there be deductions if this is done? What would they be? Or is the straddle jump technique allowed...
Hi guys! This is my first post on here, I am training level seven and I hopefully will be able to skip 8 when I get over this!! My straddle cast handstand on bars is becoming a big problem for me. I can giant pretty well between bars but I just can't get the cast handstand all the way to...
I'm having major issues with one of my girls training level 7 on her cast handstand.
I've been trying straddle cast HS and for a couple of months now they've worked on cast straddle on the bar, fall over, cast straddle hold on the bar, fall over, and stuff like that. This girl also has sitting...
For level 7 what are the deductions for a cast handstand? My dd can get up to a perfect handstand although sometimes it's ugly getting there. :) She tends to arch and sometimes bends her legs. She is insistent on doing a pike cast handstand and won't try a straddle cast handstand. Thanks.
I'm not an ortho or sports med doctor, but I am a doctor. I am A coach either. Here is the scenario, prepubertal gymnast in a short leg cast for Severs. She's learning Giants over the pit bar with a spot. They're letting her work them in her short leg cast. I understand that fiberglass is a...
In a level 8 bar routine, does a bail have to come from handstand in order to receive no angle deductions on the cast? I thought I remembered some exceptions to the rule but can't find it except when doing the bail from an underswing.
I fear we are one skill short in our Xcel Bronze bar routine based on scores in our last two meets. Can anyone definitively tell me if a cast off to stand dismount is considered one skill or two (cast + dismount)? I believe I have seen it iterpreted differently by different judges.
Thanks in...
Hi everyone :D
I have been working really hard on connecting a kip to a big cast - and I'm still struggling a little. I can hit horizontal on low bar now - which is fine, but I want to make it bigger. High bar I get a small cast and then have to do a second cast to hit a little over horizontal...
My daughter recently switched gyms and her new coaches told me one of the first things they are going to do is to have her begin doing a straddle kip cast handstand. Can anyone share their experiences about how that process was for your daughters? Did they find it hard to transition after...
I hope this question makes sense. Is there any difference in the deductions given on CHS that don't get to HS if attempted from straight body vs. straddle? More specifically, is there an "extra" deduction for a straddle cast that doesn't get to HS vs. a straight body? Thanks!
Looking at proofs of professional meet photos got me wondering--how is cast angle measured? If the gymnast has a hollow body shape, then there is not exactly a straight line to work with. Is the relevant line the upper body? The legs? An imaginary line from the head to the feet?
I have questions about the cast handstand. DD seems to have no problem getting to handstand when coming from a glide kip cast on low bar or high bar, but she has trouble getting into a handstand when she is in a front support and bouncing her legs off a bungee, as needed for a pirouette drill...
I NEED to get my kip cast hand as soon as possible!
I have my press handstand from a sit. I can even do about 4 or 5 really nice ones in a row, I manage to do 7 but on the last 2 or 3 my arms are bent a little. I can also do a straddle planche of about 40° and may use that as a beam mount. So I...
dd is almost 13 and close to done growing at about 4'9". Had initially done piked chs when she learned them at 9 but switched to straddle for a couple years. Took a bunch of time off gym and more days than not now seems happy to be back. New coach much more experienced than she's had before...
My DD is an 11yo who just finished level 5. HC wants her and her level 5 teammates to compete 7 next season. DD is having serious trouble with her cast to handstand. She is the only one in her level who cannot do it yet. She says HC gets mad at her and says she isn't trying. DD gets...
