I'm coming from a small gym where we have never competed in DP before (I'm petitioning in) so it's been hard to understand all of the rules and requirements perfectly. Currently my bar routine is Kip, handstand, pak salto, kip, handstand 1/2 pirouette, kip, jump to high, kip, handstand, giant...
Trying to figure out requirements for level 9 beam!
DD is planning on competing a BHS BT as her series (B+C), switch leap jump tuck 3/4 (C+C), and a round off full dismount. She is struggling with getting an aerial or another salto, was wondering if she needs one to start from a 10? Any help...
Hi everyone, I'm a 13yo gymnast currently training for L9. My plans are to compete another year of 8 while working to gain and feel comfortable competing all of my L9 skills. First of all I'm wondering if the following routines would be sufficient for L9/looking into L10.
Vault - Training...
Hypothetically, if this gymnast is starting high school and her teachers need to know if she will be doing NCAA to give her approved NCAA courses. Is there even a point to consider NCAA for college? Or is she too late and we shouldn’t worry about the high school ncaa approved courses. She’s a...
So I am talking more about DP not really xcel but if anyone wants to chime in on that go ahead. Do you think it is worth it for gyms to compete low levels like 1 and 2. I can see level 3 being competing because they are getting longer routines, and more building block basic skills like round off...
I have an 8 year old, and watching him progress the past few years has been so much fun. I've been coaching women's gymnastics in some form, from parent-tot to early team levels, for 25 years now. Mens gymnastics is such a different world though!
I know our gym's typical progression through...
Has anyone heard anything about Region 7 starting to host regionals for Level 7? Someone told me it had recently been decided but I can’t find any evidence of it online.
Great news... Level 5 is no longer required if you score two 36's at Level 4. See the exact details in the following link...

My daughter is working on moving to level 9 this upcoming season. She is ready everywhere but is struggling with an on and off mental block on her backwards series on beam. She can do a single back handspring without a problem but has a block on connecting to another back skill. She is hopeful...
I’m starting to think my gym has too many red flags for my daughter to stay any longer. There are 4 girls that have had to compete the same level for 4 years. Two were level 7’s and 2 were level 8’s. It’s always for something really small. Typically these girls have all skills in 3 events and...
I'll start this off with, I'm just a preteam mom that knows nothing.
Isn't 20 hours a week a little much for level 4? Level 3 practices 12 hours. Is that normal? Would you look for a gym with less hours for your preteam child?
I'm trying to figure out what level 8 floor tumbling could look like for me. What are some possible passes that would give me full credit? And are there any pass combos that use no back tumbling? (And if that's a no, then no back twisting). Thanks!
My husband is being transferred to Toronto - we currently are at a high level gym in the states. My daughter will be a 12yo L9 (2023-24 season). She has her sights on competing in college so looking for gyms that have an established program for higher level athletes. We don't have a residence...
I am curious how long does it typically take for an average recreational gymnast to get to level 3?
My daughter started gymnastics a bit late at 8y old. She was moved to level 2 after about 8 weeks and now tested into level 3 after just 6 weeks in level 2. I am quite shocked how quickly she...
What is your opinion of a gym that has the majority (over half) of the girls on their teams repeating levels every year, even at the lower levels? How common is it to have girls spend 2+ seasons in Xcel Silver? I understand there are times when it is necessary to have girls repeat a level...
What are the most common release moves that you’ve seen for level 9 bars? Or what are the most common routines that you see at meets, particularly for first year level 9s?
Weird question:
Can a back extension roll be used as a beam mount? The gymnast would stand on the floor, back to the beam, and then do a back extension roll to handstand and then lay their stomach on the beam to get to front support on the beam.
The reason I ask is one of my gymnasts wants it...
