Hi there!
My DD is just about to enter competition season as a level 4. For some reason she is having some trouble with vaulting without an arch.

We are thinking of getting her some privates, but I’m wondering if there are any thoughts/observations on where we should focus...
DS (almost 10) had a great season of division 1 l4. He was brand new to the sport but immediately fell in love with it and picked up skills quickly. Scored well and placed high all the way through. His gym has lost a coach, and they seem to be a bit overwhelmed at the moment. DS has been doing...
My daughter competed level 3 last year. She had a rough start due to a confidence issue with her round off back handspring on floor. But she overcame and ended up placing second in the all around at south state. Our gym trains up - so at the end of last season she had her level 4 skills and was...
The guidance I read on the USAG website says that a requirement to move from Level 3 to Level 4 is 75% proficiency. We are pretty new to gymnastics, so can anyone tell me what that really means? Consistently landing 75% of the required skills? Or something different?
Thanks!
Now that the L4 mobility score has been 34.0 for nearly two seasons, how do you all think it's working out in practice? Our L4 state meet is just a few weeks away, and I am still seeing large numbers of kids score below 34.0. At my daughter's most recent meet, 40 percent of the L4 girls who...
What is the deduction for going over on the L4 beam handstand? Is it 0.5 for the fall plus 0.6 for the value of the skill since the gymnast's feet never touched the beam on the way down? Can there be an additional deduction for failing to hold the handstand for 1 second before going over, or...
Hi all...I have a question regarding deductions for level 4 beam. My daughter has had four meets and her scores have been consistently around 9.0. She looks pretty good, but of course, I'm no judge. For those who are judges, can you tell me if she's getting some major deductions for her mixed...
My daughter had a meet this past weekend and fell on her cartwheel and forgot an element (she calls it the grapevine although I'm not sure that's the technical term). Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for what deductions she received for that. I know .5 for the fall...
I am looking for clarification on the level 4 bar dismount and am sure someone here can help. However I am not sure how to best describe the 2 methods very well.
I always thought the gymnast swung out released with 1 hand- performed the 1/2 turn- tapped the bar with the hand that released and...
DD is finally making it over the vault for Level 4 (front handspring) While she gets over I will say its not the most--dynamic vault. She doesn't get much flight. I would say its a bit more on the side of jump to Handstand and bridge over the vault. I am just happy she is making it over but what...
Hello all,
My daughter competed level 4 two years in a row and did very well. She was trying to get her skills for Level 6 and is close to getting her kip cast handstand, but doesn't have it yet. Her gym sent out move-up letters and she didn't get one. They met with me and said they were...
My daughter competed level 3 last year and will compete level 4 next season. I know that 30% of last years’ level 4s were told they needed to repeat and half of those decided to quit. Other than the kip, is level 4 that much tougher than 3?
Hi all. I have a question about the level 4 floor routine. My daughter is new to compulsories and just started learning the floor routine during a private lesson this weekend. She has mixed dominance, but now I'm not sure if she is learning the correct side. Can someone tell me which side of...
Hi, my daughter is movIng up to level 4 this year (she did 2 years as a level 3) and I’m wondering what the average amount of hours a 4 spends at the gym weekly? When we were on 3, she started out with 9 hours and then last season we bumped it up to 11. Her coach is pushing for all her 4’s to...
Would any judges be willing to look at a level 4 floor routine and vault? Normally don’t ask but scores were hugely different compared to a meet several weeks ago, but routines look the same. Just trying to understand. Thanks!
My daughter often shifts her position after her first tap swing on the high bar, she claims there isn’t a deduction for that but I’m curious.
I can post a video if that would help
ok usually I understand the scores (at least mostly) that dd gets but this last meet on bars I was a bit suprised. Anyone out there willing to watch the video and help me understand what wet wrong? Thanks!!
Has the mobility score for L4 always been 34, or was it recently raised? And what is the rationale for having it so much higher than the L5 mobility score?
Option 1, Piano:
Option 2, Trumpet:
Option 3, Mix:
Which one of these 3 Options for level 4 music do you like the best, and which one does your gym use?
I am going to use the level 4 routine for my optional routine next year, that is why i am interested.
