WAG After the competition season ends...how long before your gym starts training new skills?

It seems our gym takes FOREVER to start training (regularly) on new skills. DD has done level 9 for the last two years, made it to Regionals both times but not Easterns.... She is not a fan of level 9 (lol) and is ready to push past this and feels the gym isn't aggressive enough..... Just...

    Parents End of season update

I figured now is as good a time as any to give a long update on both of my DDs. We've gone through a ton of changes in the past 6-8 months, with more to come this summer. Their seasons are officially complete- we've declined regionals for both sports for financial reasons with our upcoming move...

    Parents Undefeated Season!!!

Just have to brag up my DD's level 8 team. The girls competed at the state championships on Friday, the team was undefeated going into state and it was their goal to win state (which our gym has never done, gotten 2nd a lot but never 1st, in any level) and they did it!! Beating the second...

I feel like it's been forever since my DD has competed, she and I are both so excited that her meet season is about to begin. To be fair, she has done one in-house meet (this was around Thanksgiving) and she also competed at the Peppermint Twist meet (first weekend in December) but this weekend...

MAG First "Real" meet of the season yesterday

We had our competition yesterday and the scoring was SO different! Nate only got a 9.5 on pommel after getting 10-11+ for the last two seasons in the same level. We had the Olympic judge on pommel and the scores were very low....except for a couple of super stars who got 10-11+...Yikes! Last...

Parents First comp season is a wrap!

and it was oh, so so fun!!! My dd did wonderful...she's only five and scored mid 8- low 9's for level 2, and did better every single meet...and most importantly, walked out of each one looking forward to the next. It was really fun watching her through this, working hard and having a blast...

WAG Age for WA State Level 3 Fall Compulsory Season?

We are in WA state and have recently switched from a gym that competes winter compulsories to a gym that competes fall compulsories. Is the age cutoff date for level 3 the same for both? If I understand the ages correctly, she barely makes the winter cutoff--she will be 6 on March 30. I cannot...

Parents First Xcel season is a wrap, and DD and I have changed for the better

DD's first "real" competitive season is a wrap. I say real because last year she did rec team as a 2, and this year she competed Xcel bronze. It was a big jump last summer from about 2-2.5 hours per week to 9. There were many times I wondered if she would he able to handle it, and indeed there...

Parents Our First Season of Competitive Gymastics

We just got done with our first season with our 8 year old daughter in Xcel Silver. Wanted to share my thoughts and experience. This is a long post as I have a tendency to be comprehensive. We started our gymnastics journey 3 years ago. In Feb of 2013, my wife brought my 5 yr old daughter to...

Parents It's that time of year again- end of season video montage/slideshow

Hey there! We are needing some help coming up with some youth appropriate (clean language) songs for an end of the year video montage and slideshow. I did a search but it looks like the most recent thread was from 2010. I was hoping maybe some of you may have some song suggestions that are a...

Parents FIRST 9 OF THE SEASON FOR PUMA JR!!!!

I am SO proud of this kid! As many of you know, she has really struggled this year score wise, but 9&1/2 months after the gym change her form is FINALLY getting there! Yesterday she got her best bars, best beam, best floor and best AA of the season! And a 9.125 on bars!!! Vault was not...

WAG What do you do at your "End of Season Banquet"?

In past years ours usually go: HC speech about season, eat dinner, watch 5-6 minute video of year highlights (summer practice, team camp, holiday party lock-in, competition pictures/videos, etc.) with music in the video's background, hand out a small trophy to every team member with their name...

WAG Has anyone ever made their DD take a month off in the middle of the season?

DD is struggling with blocks big time. Started with her back tuck on floor. Is now unable to connect her robhs. Forget about a double. Has no problem with bwobhs, thank goodness, and has no problem with bwo bt dismount on beam or her bhs on beam. However she is struggling with a simple bhs on...

WAG Am I out for the rest of my season?

Some kids can't catch a break (hehe pun)... and I'm one of them... I was out last season with some naggy injuries and a three broken bones, came back I think late July (ish, I can't totally remember), went from then to Dec. 7 uninjured for the most part; other than a broken toe. I was doing very...
