My daugther has a minor sprain and the doctor put her in a brace. Can someone recommend a good supportive brace she can practice in? Also, a brace that would take the place of tape? Thanks!

We can't give medical advice. Usually the doctor will give them the type of brace they prefer.

All 3 of mine did well with the kind that lace up and also velcro in a figure-eight.

These were both recommended by our PT when coming back from an ankle sprain, but only temporarily. They also didn’t recommend the lace up kind, and aren’t a fan of taping. Tape loosens so quickly that it’s really only effective for a short time, and won’t last through practice.

Has straps, more support.

No adjustable straps, slightly less support.

I've always used lace up figure 8 braces. Both times I've been fitted after breaking my ankle and once after spraining it that's what I've been fitted for. The ones I've used allow for normal up and down motion but limit side to side and circular motion. I prefer lace up braces because they accommodate better for swelling.

Lol, between the 3 girls and I, we have at least 17 ankle braces. 7-8 of them are lace up figure 8 braces. 4-5 are sleeves with figure 8 straps, and the others are the cheap ones with velcro closure on the foot and above the ankle.

I'm hypermobile (diagnosed condition) and consistently have ankle problems. I've got 2 different lace up figure 8 braces that are fitted to my ankles. They've talked about doing ones with hinges (I didn't know it was a thing!) for my ankles. I quit gymnastics cuz I kept destroying my knees and ankles haha. I have had a sleeve but it wasn't helpful. If I need compression I find ace wraps are most helpful.
