So, I coach rec. and compulsory gymnasts only so this is just more because I'm interested and not because I absolutely need to know. But I figure it would be good knowledge to have.
I typically think of the step-out part of the layout happening somewhat early in the rotation, meaning the legs are split before they are totally vertical. However, I was at an NCAA meet on Friday and one of the girls did not step out until the 2nd half of the skill. It seemed a little uncontrolled and like it had a lot of potential to throw the hips totally out of whack. So I'm just curious, when do you teach your gymnasts to step out? Are there benefits to one way over the other?

Beam deductions

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some help understanding my deductions on beam. I’ve been watching my videos back, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly where the judges are taking the most off. If anyone is willing to take a look and give me some feedback, I’d really appreciate it. I’m especially curious about execution deductions, rhythm/connection issues, and anything in my acro or dance that might be costing me. The judge started me at a 10 for this routine, and I got a 9.1
