So we had some good, some bad and some real ugly. Some over zealous judges too.

I'll start with Bitty Baby Bog, BBB from now on.

Floor 11.6
She did a great job, coach thought she scored very low, needs to finish her skills a bit better
Bars 10.15
Some legs apart, only girl to do flyaway. Coach also said she was scored low.
tramp - no score
Had elite level judge, scores were all very low. He told her to remove her earrings bfore she went. She has never done this herself and she freaked out as she has had so many infections. Her score was so low they don;t show it. She was not happy.
Vault 10.45
Not bad for her, she got over it and she has struggled with the new gymnova board since it was introduced.
Beam 11.40 8th place ribbon
The best of all. She decided to put in her cartwheel even though it is a bonus and none of the other girls in her group do it. She placed 8th and got a ribbon. She did not fall off. She would've scored higher without the cartwheel I think, but I am impressed that she went for it.

Very proud of her attitude, she was happy with meeting her goals and it was clear the other teams were very strong. A first meet that leaves her with things to work on but also thing to be proud of.

Now on to Bigger Bog. She really has struggled for a few years with injury and this meet was her payback time. There were 3 girls in her age group and one in the older age group. They put the four of them together and they were all from our club. The girls did not know this ahead of time and therefore they worked hard.

Floor 11.05 2nd place medal
Looked quite nice, front was low and she wasn't feeling very energetic. But overall very nice.
Bars 9.5
This one bites, she did a lovely routine, the only girl with both kips and a flyaway. The judge was a national level judge who was not used to the regional circuit. She said her swing was not to horizontal and therefore deducted 0.5 for that and also disallowed her long hang pullover, so she lost 1.5 for that one thing alone. Though in the video you can see she does meet the requirement. She came last of four girls, and her routine was by far the nicest. A learing lesson again.
Vault 11.1 1st place medal
Didn't see this and the video is very poor as Dad got the crap old camera. She was very happy
Beam 12.55 2nd place medal
NIce routine overal. She almost fell on her cartwheel, but managed to hold on.
Tramp 10.3 1st place
Nice routine. The Elite level judge was very harsh and the other three girls got in the 8's. Hopefully we do not see him again this season.

She was very happy with her medals, she also place 1st AA and was announced as the Championne de specialiste, which is always nice.

The nicest thing for me was seeing the team spirit. Of all the clubs there ours cheer for all the girls from all the clubs, they were so kind to each other when things did go wrong. Such a pleasant thing.

The videos are now uploading to my youtube. I didn't put up vault or BBB's tramp as the quality is so poor. BBB is E and BB is T. My channel is liamtaraerin.

Sounds like it was a great meet especially for Bigger Bog.Way to come back like this.Nice job to both of the girls. You must be very proud.
Although I do not understand the scores they appear to be very good.
Can't wait to watch the vids.
We're back from our meet too.It is very late and we have gym again in the morning.
I will write a report and upload the vids tomorrow.
It went pretty good.

Congrats to Bigger Bog and Baby bog! It sounds like BB had a great meet even if the coaches thought she was scored low!!! I"m so impressed that she was proud of her accomplishments... that's really a HUGE thing!!!

And super Congrats to Bigger Bog!!! Yes, it sounds like things FINALLY came together for her after all of her struggles with injuries AND especially her hard work!! YAY!!

I'm off to search for the videos!

Congrats to both girls!! Way to go to BBB for going for that cartwheel and her floor is adorable. It looks like she has a lot of fun with it and it suits her perky personality! And way to go to BB for some really nice routines! Bars was beautiful and definitely should have scored higher. I like her beam mount--very pretty. Congrats again and it looks like things worked out with them being on separate floors with that crazy set up for the meet.

Bog, your girls look great! Congrats to Big Baby Bog on her comeback meet! I bet she is flying high! I thought her Bars looked great. I loved Bitty Bog's beam routine, can you imagine if she had played it safe and didnt compete the cartwheel? Between you, me and all the CB friends... I am glad she competed the cartwheel, I think that does wonders for her confidence!

And a big congrats to you and DH for surviving the meet!

Well. This was my first time watching a Canadian meet in its entirety. How refreshing it was to have for example these things mixed in the same routines: a flyaway and a pull-over; a beam handstand and a roundoff dismount. It's certainly very different than anything I'm used to seeing under USAG. I'm still in awe even after playing the vid back 2 or 3 times over.

As for the score, I don't have a clue how that works (other than the general two-part scoring).

Great meet BTW.

Yes it is very different from USAG. The funny thing is the bar routine that was judged "better" than bigger Bogs had pullover and a sole circle dismount. I'd post it to compare, but it is someone elses kid and hubby filmed it by mistake as he couldn't work out which kid was his. (I amd saying nothin") As the system is bonus based we see a wide range of skills in one level, nice for the variety but hard for parents and gymnasts to understand.

Yeah to both girls:) I struggle with the scoring system still but they sound like they did great and should both be very proud as well as you momma;)
Congratulations on a great first meet of the season.

The girls did a wonderful job! I like the idea of bonus skills that way they can continue to work on all of their skills once competition season arrives.

Bog, they both looked great! I am really impressed with BBB's bar and beam routines. I can't believe she didn't score higher on her bars. BB's beam was great too - good for her going for the cartwheel. She did a great job with it! Congrats to both girls on a successful first meet!

Meg

We have sent her bar routine vid to be evaluated by another judeg. The same skills in a routine scored a 12.5 for her last year. ANother girls in the gym did the same routine as Baby Bog (though minus the flywaway) and scored higher than Bigger Bog. She is very unhappy about it as she seems to always get judged poorly on bars. We call it the English curse, she has a very English name in a very French society and we sometime wonder if she is penalised for it.

Thanks for all the kind words. Their next meet is Feb 19th, so lots of time to get ready. Gym party tonight followed by a two week break. We do things differently here for sure!

LOVE team spirit! Congrats to both your dds. I'm not used to the scoring (we still have the 10.0 at my dds level here), the quick look on your post threw me, lol. Sounds like you have a busy meet schedule with 2 girls competing. Sounds like they both had a great first meet! Way to go girls!

Can't believe how much I have missed. I did read this when you first posted it and was very happy with both Bogs performances, even watched the video. Just wasn't up to posting. Congrats to both Bogs. :) I also thought Bigger Bogs bars were very nice and hope that another judge can help her to feel better about it, though it is really unfair that it wasn't at the meet that she was at. Was very proud of BBB's cartwheel on beam and going for it!

I must of missed this report when you originally posted it!

This must be the year of "tough judges" as quite a few of us were saying that we had some toughy judges at Christmas on the Chesapeake too.

The girls look good. I love watching trampoline, I think it is so cool! Bars looked good too, for both girls! I love how the coach came out and hugged I believe it looked like little Bog to me, she looked so proud of her!

Good luck at the next meet, the girls have plenty of time to enjoy their 2 weeks off and then get back into the gym before the Feb. meet.

I don't really understand the scoring, I'm used to the 10.0. Which scoring system do you go by? Anyway, it sounds like they both did very well. I'm sorry that BBB had such a tough time with the Tramp judge and the whole earring thing. Sounds like she did very well though. And WOW to BB! That is awesome, 1st place!

A great meet report!

The coach is awesome and hands out hugs to all the girls, no matter what. She is so proud of all they do. It was little Bog getting the hug.

We use the FIG scoring here like in international gym. It is based on skills and bonus skills, so each child mght start from a different point. Big Bog has the highest start value with two kips and a flyaway, but she got hammered by the girls with two pullovers and a sole circle dismount, we still can't work out why. The coach is a judge and she is not sure either. We live and learn. Nice she did so well, but bars is her fav event, but hopefully she has a better judge next time.

Bigger Bog will be in a small group this season though and her chance for provincials is very good. Baby Bog is up against some serious teams &has many girls in her level including 8 from our club and only about 6 can qualify, so it may not be her year. But good things come to those who wait and she will get her turn if she perseveres.

GREAT job to the Bog clan!

I am a lot like you....with going for the cartwheel on the beam...go for it! A real confidence booster going for something and getting the job done! Also, getting/doing a skill before teamates gives you that feeling that you DO belong and there is a reason why you are on a team. So many times my DD has been dead last in AA or in lower end of group, but still manages to get an award for something. She leaves a meet feeling like she contributed something and she belongs in gymnastics. It means everyone has strengths and weaknessess but everyone matters! GO lil BOG! My DD also has vault issues and every meet I am praying "please get your tush over that table..." it's hard, but thankfully she is doing this vault til L7 or L8. Should be enough time to get used to it. Good job on the fly-away, huge skill, not sure my DD will loves bars when she has to learn that one!

Big Bog just rocked the meet! Very cool you get to do tramp, what a nice part of gymnastics and wish they did that here. Sounds like she got low balled on bars, but sometimes it just happens. At DD's last meet there were only 3 9's given away and that session included L5's-L9! As long as she knows she is doing what she can to progress and improve for next time. Hope you don't get that judge anytime soon. Isn't it funny how you get to "know" the judges though and when you see them at a meet you just know where the scores will be, LOL

Sounds like a good day for all and I also love when there is team spirit and bonding. I also love when they branch out and make friends with other teams they compete against. They start to see the same girls at meets and it's nice that they are friendly to all. At awards you can see them sitting with other gyms sometimes...very nice!

Pixie has had some nightmares with earrings as well. She's had her ears pierced twice with the same outcome: infections - frustrations - removal

Both times we chose the more expensive earrings (one time it cost $60.00!!) to ensure that she didn't put junk metal in her ears since she has very sensitive skin...but to no avail.

I know Pixie would have flipped out too if she were told to remove earrings from her ears because she never could remove them by herself. Not to mention those earrings they use for piercing, I even had trouble removing!

Is there some rule that they are not allowed to do tramp with studs in? I'm just curious why they told her to remove them. Is this the first time she has been asked to do so? That seemed a bit passive aggressive to me for the judge to do that to a little girl. Maybe I was reading it wrong or more into it than should have been but having been through that with Pixie's ears myself and the nightmare about touching her ears...I would not have been happy. Good for you for handling yourself in a more mature fashion than I would have, lol!

Good job girls! Can't wait to watch the videos :)
