My daughter attended last summer in CT because it aligned with our summer travel schedule. The leotard is most definitely not included and not a requirement, but if your kiddo wants to feel "included" you'll be out another $50+. I thought it was well run and a solid program but I wouldn't say she got a ton of value out of it. I don't think we will attend again this year. Might be an 'every other year' kind of thing for us. It's pricey and I want to look into another type of camp or clinic program instead. A bars bootcamp would be awesome!! That's our current area of need lol!

Hi all, I know this was a couple of weeks ago but is there a camp for vault, I dunno, "vault queen?" Really would like to get some help for my 9yo. TIA!

Not that I know of.

Beam is probably the easiest event to have a camp for. Floor could be done pretty easily too.

Vault could be done if you did some running drills / technique... leg strength... trampoline... as well as vault. Their legs may get very tired though.

Bars would be hard... most of the athletes wouldn't make it too far before their hands were hurting too much. You could do it... it would take some planning though.

Perfection Gymnastics used to do bar boot camps, I would be interested in how they ran, as the hands/general endurance would need to be managed.

I went to a week (really 5 days) long camp at a university as a child, and they had an apparatus camp on the weekend between the two weeks of camp- 2.5 days and you chose two events. I made the grave error of choosing bars one year and it was awful. I definitely think they could have done it better with more floor stations, even tramp drills, but we just had way too much time swinging bars.

I also think that beam is the easiest as far as jumping in with a random group of kids and coaches who have never worked together before. Our gold beam coach always points out that it is also the easiest to coach when there is a range of levels in one group - she can easily work back shoulder rolls, back walkovers, and back handsprings in the same rotation, but it is harder on floor if you have kids who still need round off backhandsprings and others who need to work back tucks. She lets me (vault and bars) and the floor coach decide the groups, because it just doesn't effect her as much.

Any recent reviews on the workshop? It is not in our area and we would need to travel for it. My daughter is pretty good on beams and enjoy doing beam work so far. The camp it self is just two half days. I am trying to see if this is worth it. Any honest review is helpful, like do they gain skills, do they get challenged, do they become more solid in their skills and confidence? Thank you.

Hi!

Has anyone attended Beam Queen Boot Camp? Is it worth the time and price? My DD is a level 7 and beam is her hardest event. She struggles in pretty much every meet. Also, she is recovering from a back injury so pointers on other series that would count for level 8 or XCEL diamond would be great to learn.

Also, I can't justify the 145.00 cost to join the club (or 16.00 per month) to just see the locations that were released today. We are doing college visits with my oldest son this summer so I would love know where they are going this summer so I can try to coordinate something for her to do while we are college visiting. If anyone could share the list of locations that have been released I would be grateful.

Thanks,
Peanut's Mom
As for beam series for Xcel Diamond ... CW-RO or CW-Dive CW or CW-CW and separate RO or HS fwd roll step-out to CW or RO. If a FHS won't hurt her back, she could do that as her flight skill. I am skipping anything BWO, FWO, or BHS.
With the isolated flight skills, she could even link them to her dismount (RO-BT or BLO dismount ar FHS-FT or FLO dismount).
Level 8 is a little trickier with the UTL deductions, but I will try (series with 2 B flight and 2 additional acro with 1 being a B)
Option 1 (2 series): FHS stepout-RO and CW-RO or CW-Dive CW or HS fwd roll stepout-RO or CW.
Dive CW-RO and FHS stepout-CW or CW-Dive CW or HS fwd roll stepout-RO
Option 2 (1 series, separate B and A) FHS stepout-RO and dive CW or RO or HS fwd roll and CW or HS 1/2 pirouette or HS (hold).
Dive CW-RO and FHS or RO or HS fwd roll and CW or HS 1/2 pirrouette or HS (hold).

Good luck to Peanut.

If anyone has any input on this, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts as well. One of the upcoming locations for next year is quite close to us so my daughter is thinking about it.

Also, does anyone have a sense of how quickly these tend to fill up?

My dd as a L10 has not participated in the Beam Queen camp, but our gym has hosted it for the last 3 years so we have seen how they set up and run it. First I would say expectations should be managed that a 2.5 day camp is not going to make a marked difference in skills. (when was the last time you went to a 2 day conference and came out a changed professional?). The coaches running the camp are mostly current and ex-college gymnasts along with Sam Peszek or Bridgette Sloane. While certainly accomplished gymnasts, they are not coaches. The camp appears fun and festive. Lots of balloons and pink and glitter for sign-in. I know everyone enjoys the camp. I am sure there might be some nuggets to be learned and I imagine it has to be inspiring to take instruction from them, but I would temper my expectations from a skill development standpoint.

I think a camp would have to be absolutely exceptional for me to travel for a two half day camp. It was in our area last year, however we did not attend. Teammates described it as fun and a positive uplifting environment but nobody came back with new skills learned. Moms commented that there was strong bias toward girls who are “insta-famous” or have big social media followings.

Thanks for sharing! Not surprised! Following them on insta, it has been the same few faces, I always wonder what “the other girls” did!
