My DD had a nice straight back flip when doing "vault" for the past 3 years. I say "vault" because it was the bronze vault where basically they jump on the springboard and then flip onto the mat but it was very good. Now this year she is folding in the middle or just straight out doing a roll. I will not try to fix it but would like to understand is this a normal stage of progression or what os happening?

Kids are weird! They do stuff like that sometimes. Lol

It has been 5 months and it has not improved. Is that normal?
Is she asking you about it? I would assume the coaches are working on it. If she is mentioning it to you then ask her what the coach is saying and checking if she actually understands what they want.

While I don't believe you should be trying to fix this and give her corrections - there is no harm in helping your child understand/communicate with her coaches.

Well, if her vault isn't even a solid flatback then she probably shouldn't move up. I don't believe in moving up levels just because of the time spent in one. It's about skills.
She was apparently solid before. Why wasn’t she moved up then? Only speaking from personal experience - when my daughter was a 2nd year bronze, she all of a sudden started falling out of her bhc, it turned out to be her power had “outgrown” the skill but her little brain couldn’t fully control it. Her coach upgraded her to double bhc, and her bars instantly improved.

Well, that could very well be the case. Perhaps her coaches should try drilling the handspring over the mat stack to see if that solves it. She might just have too much power. My favorite drill for that is having a barrel on the mat stack that they roll over instead of flatback-ing.
