I thought Shawn would be in Vault EF's?? So Nastia is the only American with a chance to medal in 3 EF's and Shawn only 2????? Confused::confused:

Shawn can't do another vault of value from a different group. ie...it's a twisting yurtchenko or nothing.

I read the quick hits that InternationalGymnast forum members that watched it online posted. Here it is but its a lot of reading

Here's that thread, meet starts at the bottom of page 10 with Subdivision 1 (China) . I think USA starts competing in subdivision 2 around page 47

Can Shawn win Gold in AA if she doesn't do vault - also didn't see her on bars. Or is that a totally different competition?

There will be team finals...

Then AA...

Then Individual Events

Shawn did compete AA in the qualifying round, so she's good to go.

Yes, Shawn did vault in the qualifying round, and in the individual all around finals, which she qualified to compete in, she will only need to compete one vault (as will every one else).

Not sure if you are clear that there are medals given for the team all around (after the finals on Tues. and we'll have three athletes competing on each event and we'll count all three scores), and then on a separate day, we'll have an individual all around competition, which will consist of the top 24 finishers from the qualifying round, except that if one country has more than 2 in the top 24, then they can only send 2, so the third (and so on, if that's the case) will not be allowed to compete. Shawn and Nastia are competing in that. In addition to that, there are medals given for each event, and so there's event finals too. In the event finals, the gymnast needed to place in the top 8 in the qualifying round to compete in the event finals, and again, no more than 2 per country (so it's possible an athlete that came in 9 or 10 could compete too if another country had more than 2). Oh, and to qualify for vault finals, a gymnast MUST do two different vaults in the qualifying round, but they only need to do one to qualify for all around finals. Hope that helps.
