Was wondering what duties outside of actually taking the classes that other coaches get paid for. Do you get paid to open/set and close/pack up the gym? Do you get paid to clean the gym, if so what exactly does that involve like vacuuming or wiping mats? Are your work meetings paid? Do you get paid for things like completing training courses or making lesson plans? What about choreographing routines? If you are required to have things like a first aid certificate, will your gym pay for it?

Also curious what you guys have paid for out of your own pocket. Prizes for kids? Ever bought any equipment yourself?

Obviously know this will depend on the country, type of worker you are like full or part time, and coaching position (like head coach vs team coach vs red coach). But I’m keen to hear everyone’s experiences and how they differ!🙂

We get paid for set up and planning periods, and everyone has an end of shift cleaning task. If you want more hours, you can usually do more of those things. We also get paid for all parent communication, skill tracking, etc. Staff meetings and trainings are paid. Choreographers get paid a flat fee for the routine plus the private lesson rate to teach it.

I have bought prizes but have always been reimbursed for equipment - jump ropes in my case.

Oh interesting thanks for your reply. I like the idea of everyone getting a cleaning task each shift seems organised ahaha. Really good that you get paid for all that stuff, curious how they track payment for things like parent communication? I have definitely spent too much on prizes sometimes haha. There’s some equipment I’ve been asking for a while but hasn’t been purchased, some days I just consider buying it myself but don’t want to overstep

We had old school time sheets where we wrote out when we worked. If we sent emails or called parents, we were just told to keep track of it and add it to our shift. So if it was a half hour, we'd just write an extra half jour and put a small note on the side saying "parent emails".

I get paid for the hours I coach, te setting/tidying up,... is included in those hours.
If we need equipment we usually asks and the gym buys it, but sometimes I've bought some small things like bands/weights/...
Coreography is paid for the hours, too.
I have to say that's in a country where gym is not as professionalized as in the US, outside of the high level clubs/training centers.
