Women Evolution of Beam

That's really cool to watch it evolve.

And for me a bit of an epiphany... The balance beam seems to have genuinely started out as a balance beam. As in, to showcase the athlete's ability balance in a variety of positions on a 4" (was it 4" then?) beam.

Today, it more of a tumble beam. It showcases an athlete's ability to tumble on a 4" wide beam... Not that it isn't a tremendous feat, and not that it doesn't require an insane ability to balance, but feels a bit like a different skill set to me...?

I liked the 80's and 90's the best. You don't see a lot of those artistic flexibilty/dance moves anymore. It's interesting that the acro skills really haven't even gotten harder since then either (I've always been under the impression that today's stuff is harder) - people were doing all kinds of fulls, etc., and consecutive layouts, etc. even back then.
