Any coaches have drills or cues they use to get a gymnast to tuck tighter when flipping Yurchenko Vaults?

Guessing it's a timing/technique thing but DD just doesn't rotate fast enough and lands chest down or falling onto her knees. Watching her in slow motion she has her head back. Coach was having her try piking but that felt really uncomfortable to her.

If you have sufficient speed coming in, you really don't need to throw your head to flip, it'll just flip - my guess (take with a grain of salt) is she has some mistakes on the approach that are costing her speed, and throwing the head is a way to get back some of that lost speed... but throwing the head keeps her from closing her tuck, which then costs her even more speed.

Keep practicing and listen to coach. Lots of repetition to get that entry right...

How are her double backs and Cody’s on trampoline?

Beyond that… more leg strength.

Agree… the Yurchenko is first and foremost done off of the legs. Anything added to the vault during or after table contact is advanced technique. Most during and after table contact fixes don’t work well without immense power.

I would work roundoff lay-tuck into the foam… with board and hand mat. Then lay-pike. Then double lay. Then get the double lay onto a mat or on the tramp.
