My family is moving to Brooklyn, and one of my daughters is a gymnast. She is 11 and is L7, and she has college aspirations, but I also know her and I know that - especially moving to NYC - there are some other things she likes to do and so she wouldn't want gymnastics to be her whole life. We have looked at gymnastics places near where we will be living (Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo) and Gotham Gymnastics looks pretty professional and they have a good track record for college gymnasts. I'd love to know if anyone has any advice or know anything about Gotham, my family is not really in the Gymnastics scene other than her so I don't know anything other than what is on their website honestly. Anyway, any insight on what her schedule could look like, how their coaching is, and anything else like that would be great!

One of the best in NYC and surrounding areas, great facility (surprising for nyc), produces college bound gymnasts. Their DP program is intense, it is better to visit and do a tour to see if it is a fit for your daughter. You don’t really have too many choices though in nyc even when you are willing to travel to other boroughs.

I personally went to NYC Elite and loved it there, but again, I was at the lower levels. I do have a friend that I was at lower levels with who is part of the 2027 recruiting class and I think she is level 9. She progressed insanely fast. We were both IGC Copper 2 in 2020, and both took a break, and she returned to the sport in 2022.

But I have heard stunning reviews from friends that switched to Gotham.

My daughter is on team at Gotham. The quality of coaching and the opportunities available to the girls there are excellent - I’d say top tier for NYC. They are very focused on getting girls to college, have a great network particularly with the Ivys, and are building an elite program as well. The hours are intense especially since most girls in the city don’t homeschool - so it’s 21+ hours a week for optionals levels, afterschool and on Saturdays. On the bright side, the girls on team who are around each other for that many hours are incredibly kind and welcoming - they build such a sense of team and camaraderie there. I’d highly recommend bringing your daughter in for a trial with the team coaches.

Thank you this is great to know. Sadly we can’t get out to Brooklyn for the next few months, so it would be great to get some info while we wait. Could you share more about their weekly schedule or hours at optionals? Also, how often do they attend meets or clinics? Any info would be great until we can get out there, thanks!
