LSS has her first meet in less than 2 weeks. She will be competing Xecl Platinum.
She had moved up to Platinum originally halfway through the 2022-23 season. Last season, she was Platinum the entire season, but missed a couple meets due to different injuries.
Her injuries included: de Quervain's tenosynovitis in her right hand, sprained left ankle, chronic knee pain (she's also a competitive dancer and runs track), shin splints, compressed vertebrae in her lower back, and a pinched nerve in her right hip. She also has sports-induced asthma (mostly well-managed).
This is her senior year. The coach had petitioned our regional committee to move her back to Gold because she has lost skills and some strength. We just found out this past Thursday that her petition was denied.
She is freaking out. She is a competitor and gets upset over low scores (but would be more upset to scratch Bars and/or Beam). I told her we will just have to reframe what a "good score" is for these 2 events.
I am hoping her "Senior Leotard" will lessen the blow at least for the first meet.

My first meet is on Saturday. This will be my first year of Platinum, so I am worried I won't score a 33 to get to nationals (I would not be as worried to get this score in the first meet or two, if I decided not to do HS gymnastics). I am happy though that all of my local meets this season (including local HS meets) are at my gym. It's also nice that this first meet is only my gym and one other gym competing, and that they do not have an xcel team, so I am only competing against my teammates.

Aw. All the best to your daughter. I hope she is able to enjoy herself. I love that you're talking about reframing what a good score is. I don't know what kinds of routines she'd be competing but if you/her coach can help figure out what the big built in deductions are, you could say, well your highest possible score was really going to be an 8.5 and you got a 7.9. That's only 0.6 in deductions, so that's amazing! Things like that.

You've got this! A 33 is an average of 8.25 on each event if that helps you to think in smaller steps.

Wait there is a confirmed nationals for Xcel? can you please tell me more about it.

LSS also wants the 33 to qualify for Nationals ... but with still coming back from injuries, she is really worried about it. She is a senior and wants to give me "my senior" since neither OG or YG competed their senior years.
Just believe in yourself and dont get into your head.
Last year, LSS was 0.2 away from qualifying at one meet because she got into her head. She only needed a 7.250 on beam to get her 33. In her previous meet, she had an 8.300 on beam. She tried too hard to be perfect, fell on her acro (no SV credit) ... and her full turn (got the SV) ... and her tuck jump 1/2 (got the SV). She ended up with a 7.050.

Good Luck. Hope to see you in Wisconsin this summer.

This is what I do and have always done. :)
With YG, her first year of Xcel Gold, she didn't do acro or a full turn on beam. That meant that she had a 9.0 SV. When she got an 8.1 on beam, I was super happy for her. She was only 10 years old (youngest Xcel on our team). I told her that 8.1 meant the judge only found 90¢ in deductions. It was the best she had ever done on beam. I reminded her that her previous best (old L4 - 2012-13 season) beam score was 8.0 with a 10.0 SV, so that time she lost $2.00 in deductions.
LSS is a senior, so it isn't as easy to get her to reframe things that way, but I still try.
We are also working on ways to minimize the built-in deductions. I honestly don't expect her to even attempt beam acro in a meet until at least January. We are trying to get her a roundoff so she doesn't have to worry about 2 skills AND connecting them.
On Bars, we are working on getting casts higher and possibly getting her squat on back or trying a straddle on. She also wants a clear hip and is slowly working on that.
On floor, she has everything, but can't put her front pike or back tuck to competition landing surface yet.
On vault, she has her 1/2 on - repulsion off. She is working on getting her 1/2-1/2 back.
She got her senior leo last night and LOVES it! I am hoping that will give her the boost in morale to accept lower scores for now. :)

Wow, what school does she go to?
I am a junior at Woodruff High School and have been doing gym before I could even walk.
Although Woodruff does not have a gym team, I do Cross, Track and Soccer at school
