Aw. All the best to your daughter. I hope she is able to enjoy herself. I love that you're talking about reframing what a good score is. I don't know what kinds of routines she'd be competing but if you/her coach can help figure out what the big built in deductions are, you could say, well your highest possible score was really going to be an 8.5 and you got a 7.9. That's only 0.6 in deductions, so that's amazing! Things like that.LSS has her first meet in less than 2 weeks. She will be competing Xecl Platinum.
She had moved up to Platinum originally halfway through the 2022-23 season. Last season, she was Platinum the entire season, but missed a couple meets due to different injuries.
Her injuries included: de Quervain's tenosynovitis in her right hand, sprained left ankle, chronic knee pain (she's also a competitive dancer and runs track), shin splints, compressed vertebrae in her lower back, and a pinched nerve in her right hip. She also has sports-induced asthma (mostly well-managed).
This is her senior year. The coach had petitioned our regional committee to move her back to Gold because she has lost skills and some strength. We just found out this past Thursday that her petition was denied.
She is freaking out. She is a competitor and gets upset over low scores (but would be more upset to scratch Bars and/or Beam). I told her we will just have to reframe what a "good score" is for these 2 events.
I am hoping her "Senior Leotard" will lessen the blow at least for the first meet.
You've got this! A 33 is an average of 8.25 on each event if that helps you to think in smaller steps. My first meet is on Saturday. This will be my first year of Platinum, so I am worried I won't score a 33 to get to nationals (I would not be as worried to get this score in the first meet or two, if I decided not to do HS gymnastics). I am happy though that all of my local meets this season (including local HS meets) are at my gym. It's also nice that this first meet is only my gym and one other gym competing, and that they do not have an xcel team, so I am only competing against my teammates.
Wait there is a confirmed nationals for Xcel? can you please tell me more about it.My first meet is on Saturday. LSS also wants the 33 to qualify for Nationals ... but with still coming back from injuries, she is really worried about it. She is a senior and wants to give me "my senior" since neither OG or YG competed their senior years. My first meet is on Saturday. If there were concerns about SV on bars, your coach should have submitted an inquiry to the head judge. It is not hard to do and can help clarify things for the future as well. Without seeing the routine as performed, it's hard to say.First meet complete, this was the stupidest meet I have been to
The only thing I thought I would have a lower SV on was vault (half on, 9.7), but I ending up having 3.2 off in just SV
Vault - 9.7 SV, 8.175
Bars - 8.2 SV, 7.2
Beam - 9.4 SV (I know I did not get credit for my beam connection, but I am not sure if my mount counts as an element), 8.05
Floor - 9.5 SV (I thought rbh as one pass and front pike as another counts for 10 SV, so would I need to do rbh tuck instead?), 8.7
For my bars score, what is the SV of this routine because there is no way that this is correct:
Kip, cast (my angle was 110), clear hip (apparently I did not get all the way around, but watching the video back, it’s very clear I did, I can try to put the video on here for someone else to double check that I did go around), kip, squat on, tap swing (only 1), half turn dismount
For a beam mount, does this count?

For a first platinum meet, I am trying to stay positive, I was only 0.875 off from qualifying, but it’s really frustrating that I think that the judges gave me the wrong bars sv.
My coach did ask about my SV and said I was missing 2 "A" (I am pretty sure my routine has 6 "A"s though, and said my free hip did not get credit, so at most it would be 9 SV, im not sure what else would have been taken off (maybe my cast if they were really picky?)If there were concerns about SV on bars, your coach should have submitted an inquiry to the head judge. The link for your beam mount isn't working for me.
In platinum, you are required to have a tumbling pass with at least one flight and one salto in order to meet requirements. We've even had girls do round off back tuck. Again, your coach should be making this clear and checking that you either meet requirements or are aware of the built in deductions you're thinking.
Overall, it sounds like you need to talk to your coach and perhaps your coach, if inexperienced, needs to seek out some assistance in making sure start values are being met. Sometimes judges are willing to come to a gym and do verification on these things and provide some feedback.
In the meantime, this can be a good resource: https://www.google.com/amp/s/gymnasticshq.com/xcel-platinum-requirements/amp/
I think I know the problem! The half turn dismount is not considered a dismount passed xcel gold. I think it’s a really weird rule but idk? You got at least 0.5 off in not having a dismount! The platinums at my gym that can’t flyaway just do undershoots or sole circle!First meet complete, this was the stupidest meet I have been to

Ok, if I did this routine next competition, would this hypothetically get a 10.0 SV (as long as I meet angle requirements and my clear hip gets credited)I think I know the problem! I could be wrong but the A skills that I see are kip, cast, kip, squat on and tap swing 1/2 turn dismount which is 5. If platinums can't do that dismount, that would add up to the 4 that the judges said.Kip, cast (my angle was 110), clear hip (apparently I did not get all the way around, but watching the video back, it’s very clear I did, I can try to put the video on here for someone else to double check that I did go around), kip, squat on, tap swing (only 1), half turn dismount
You don't need the back hip circle but yesOk, if I did this routine next competition, would this hypothetically get a 10.0 SV (as long as I meet angle requirements and my clear hip gets credited)
