Tuition is low at my club, but for us, the cost is that coaches are paid very low hourly wages and we have pretty minimal equipment.

Same in the netherlands. We do pay something for competition, at the highest level about 11 euro per meet. Also, parents and other spectators can come and watch meets for free, no entry fees.europe is different because at least germany is "socialist" in sports - clubs are not for profit but partly state funded. sport clubs are just part of public infrastructure (like roads, schools, hospitals, libraries and so on) in this part of the world.
my sports club's fees (also offering gym besides many other sports; gymnasts train 3x4 hours per week) are 270 euros per year for adults, much lower for kids or family membership. competition fees are low and paid by the club. no extra fees for coaching. this is about the norm round here and i live inthe wealthiest part of germany.
We pay $210 a month for 7 hours a week, plus $120 every 3 months for a new Leo. And that's just pre-team.
I'm sorry but I don't understand why pre-team gymnasts would need a new $120 leotard every 3 months?? That's just silly.
Why would even the team girls need a new $120 leo every three months??!?
This is her first gym and I thought that was the norm. Interesting to see that it's not. Of course, the other gym in our area is WOGA so I guess I don't have much to compare to lol. I still have a lot to learn about the gym world. Maybe I need to start asking more questions about things in the future. I just feel strange calling a gym and asking hypothetical questions like how much they charge for Leo's etc. is that something I should do? Again, she's been in gymnastics for 7 months so I'm new to it. I was a distance runner. Much easier!
Christ on a cracker, that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of....the national team isn't even required to wear matching practice leos when they're at the ranch....this is seriously absurd.I think I know which gym you must be at...it is the only gym in the area that has practice leotards that the girls must wear for practice. (Or at least it used to be required) At every other gym in town, the girls can wear any brand/style Leo to practice with no required practice leotards.

Well, that's a new one! I honestly can't understand the reasoning behind this. It is adding an extra expense that is entirely unnecessary. I think it's awesome your daughter likes her coach and that the gym seems like a good place for her, but I hope it doesn't end up getting prohibitively expensive in the future. It will be a lot of money when she begins competing and training more hours a week, and if you have to get a new leo four times a year on top of that, I can't see that being very affordable.…plus $120 every 3 months for a new Leo.
[QUOTE="Aero, post: 508121, member: 16077" To draw in more kids from rec because they want to wear the "special team leotard?"
