Hey gymnasts!
I just recently Got a new coach And it is all about strength, strength, and more strength. For exp. We went from having to do 8 pullups to 3 sets of 15 and hold the last one in a chin hold position for 30 seconds. I have even lost a teamate due to the fact that the strength was so much. We are doing this strength for one full hour:(!!!!
Anyway to the whole point of my question...
How do you fellow gymnasts overcome soreness????????
I had practice last night and am super sore and then I have to go in and do the same entire strength list a again tonight!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I might die:)!!!!!

Ice, heat, rest, stretches, prayer...um, sorry I'm not being much help :/ I don't know if there's much you can really do. Sometimes quotes help. Get a quote stuck in your head and repeat it to yourself all through practice. I like doing that - it helps me focus. Like one is by Lance Armstrong "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, an hour, a day, or year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever."
Try try as hard as you can, but if you really feel like your coach is pushing you TOO hard it might be a bad thing and you'd have to say something.
Good Luck!

In the long run this strength will help you improve a lot; but "no pain, no gain" lol. You'll be sore for a few weeks but then your body will get used to it. Stretching and hot baths help a little with soreness, but all you can really do is wait until your body adjusts. :)

My gymnast tells me that stretching and working the sore muscles helps relieve the pain. On occasion, ibuprofen helps, too. Of course, this is the same kid who said that if you never stop moving, you never get sore!

Stretch, heat and ice! That helps me a lot. When I do my conditioning, I sing in my head, or out loud. Call me crazy, but it works!

Relief for sore muscles

They have started a summer conditioning program at our gym and my daughter comes home sore every night. What helps her a lot is a long soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts after practice. She also swims on her off days and that helps loosen up the tight muscles. There are some good topical cremes that contain analgesics that can be put on the muscles before bed.

this is so true. i do this when im conditioning or just training in general, itll help take your mind off it.
in reference to the pain, take a warm bath with epsom[sp?] salts, sleep in skins (if you have them) those running pants, or long tights. going for a run helps as well.
hope i helped a little.:)
