Honey used on Beam?

I was reading a thread, and I read that a coach allows honey to be used on the beam instead of chalk! Struck me funny. I was wondering why you would do this, the pros and cons of it and honey on the apparatus vs. chalk on it.

yes, they put just a spot on their hands and sometimes the bottoms of their feet.

I can't figure out why, but something i heard is that justice crew put watered down coke on the floor before dancing so they don't slip, could it be for anti-slip purposes? it can't be good for the beam!

it actually does not ruin the covers. the 'sticky' ends up wearing off without any harm.
