May I ask you all, how many hours do your DDs train?

DD was at a YMCA gym for (old) level 5, so only 6 hours. She started training 7.5 hours when she started training level 6 at the Y, but then we switched her to a private gym and her hours doubled. She now is going 19 hours as a level 8.

Amazing! How many hours does she train?

@ old level 3 about 12 hours
tested out of old level 4
@ old level 5 about 20 hours (including TOPS)
tested out of old level 6
@ level 7 about 17 hours
currently training level 8 @ about 18 hours (including 1 hour bar clinic)

DD went from new 3 to 7 in a year.

At new 3 she did 12 hours and then 14 hours when she did 6/7. When she started competing 7 she bumped up to 19 hours sort of. 5 of those hours were a Saturday practice they never had due to meets so really it was still just 14.

One year at old 5/new 4, one year at old 6 and one year at 7.

3 years

Old 4 2007
Scored out of Old 5
Old 6 2008
Level 7 2010

pre-team age 5-6 - 3 hours a week
age 7 trained old 5 - 8 hours aweek
age 8 competed old 5 - 12 hours a week
age 9 competed old 5 then 3 meets old 6 - up to 16 hours/week
age 10 level 7 - 16 hours
age 11 repeat level 7 and now L8 - 16-20 hours now

No TOPS available, no higher hours available (not nec a problem...), repeated 7 by gymnast choice this year....no one "scores out" at her gym - but generally kids would only do one year at old 6 (or less like DD). Old 5/new 4 is the first level competed, so often repeated.

I'm sure you can see how much this varies - and there are also successful gymnasts who repeat many times (DD has moved "fast" for her gym...)

My DD did 10 a week as a level 4, 14 hours a week as a level 5, 14-18 hours a week as a 6/7 and now does 19.5 hours as a repeat 7, currently training for level 8.

Age 7-started gymnastics
Age 8- old level 4
Age 9 old 5
Age 10- old 6
Age 11 skip 7
Age 11 level 8
Age 11- training level 9
Can't believe she started gymnastics in 2010, and is training level 9 four years later- crazy!

Age 5-preteam/TOPS (9 hours)
Age 6/7 (feb. '12-feb '13)- old Level 4/TOPS (12-15 hours)
Age 7 (aug'13-dec'13)- new level 4/TOPS (18 hours)
Age 8 (jan '14-mar '14) - new 5/ TOPS
She will compete Lvl 7 (unless Lvl 6 becomes required) in Dec of this year. Trains 22.5 hours!
So about 16 months if all goes as planned......

simple question...

how long did it take you/your child to from (new) Level4 to (new) Level7?
3 seasons (old lvl 4, lvl 5, lvl 6--with second 1/2 of level 5 to first 1/2 of level 6 off for an injury), but then she only did one lvl 7 meet, scored out and went to 8. So I guess 2 full seasons.

Age 5 (old level 3 at 7 - 9 hours per week)
Age 6 (old level 4 at 12 hours per week)
Age 7 (old level 4 and old level 5 at 12 - 16 hours per week)
Age 8 (1 meet of new level 5 and spring 2014 at level 7 at 16 hours per week)
Summer 2014 (will turn 9...training level 8...20 hours)

8 or 9 months.

EDIT: Adding hours above

Did old level 5 fall 2011. Old level 6 spring 2012. Level 7 spring 2013(no fall season for optionals here) and Level 8 spring this year. So, twoish years. She will do 9 next spring IF she has all her level 9 skills.

:) They all follow their own path. Which also very much depends on your gyms philosophy, too.

Totally agree
6 yr old -old level 4
7 yr old - old level 5
8 yr old -repeated old level 5
9 yr old - level 6
10 yr old - level 7
11 yr old -level 8 (is this old L7?)

L4-12 hours
L5-7 15 hours
L8- present 23 hr

My dd followed this path:

Level 4 - 8 yrs old
Level 5 - 9 yrs old
Level 6 - 10 yrs old
Level 7 - 11 yrs old

My dd also did 2 yrs at Level 8; 2 yrs of Level 9 & is in her 2nd yr of Level 10. She is now a senior in high school.

My DD competed old L4 in 2012-2013. She did the new L4, L5 routines at the same meet to get mobility scores in October 2013. She skipped new L6 and competed the entire 2013-2014 season at new L7.

4 years. Did Xcel gold after old 5, then did old 6, then new 6, now hoping to compete 7 this fall.
She trains about 18 hrs a week.

4 months.

DD competed at State in December and just moved to 7 this week. Having said that, she has been training 7 since October. As such, she's got almost all her 7 skills, with the exception of giants on bars.

She trains 20 hours/week.

age 6 - old level 4
age 7 - old level 5
age 8 - repeated old level 5
age 9 - new level 6
age 10 - training for 7

Fall 2012 - old level 5 (new level 4)
Summer 2013 - scored out of old level 6 (in-house meet)
Jan 2014 - Level 7
May 2014 - Training level 8

9 years old, trains 20 hours per week.

Good luck!!
