Hi, I was wondering what the average time spent on each level is? I know it is different for every gymnast, but what's the average?

1 year per level is average. Most gymnasts will repeat one or two levels at some stage. Gymnasts who are being fast tracked will usually skip levels by just testing out of them. But a year is average.

I think that is like asking how long is a piece of string. Every kid has their own average and will follow it. Individual gyms may have their own averages depending on how they select kids for team and how they allow move ups.

for me i've done 1 season in every level so far..at my gym its mostly 2 seasons then you move up..it's different at every gym and for every gymnast

That isn't as simple a question as you might think. It's like asking how high is the sky.

Our gym usually the compulsories L 4 is one year L5 and/or L6 1 - 2 years (age is a factor)
Optionals L7 1 - 2 years L 8 seems to be 2 - 3 years and our L9 - 10 tend to drop out to do other interests after a few months. (they usually are in High School and either join the HS gym team or go for something new)

Other gyms in the area I've seen girls 2 - 3 years at Compulsory levels because the gym want the State Champ title for that level.

Gym philosophy, parents desire to have their gymnast move along, girls desire to move along, physical and Mental readiness is considered and the age of the gymnast are all factors.

At our gym it all depends on age and skill level, however for the most part we only do lvl 4,5,6 for one year. 7 is usually one, but then 8 is 2. 9 is one or two depending on when a gymnast has all the requirements for 10.
