I am so sorry to hear about that! I hope she heals fast!

I'm so sorry to hear that! Jumping to the high bar is literally the skill that kept me awake at night with worry for my DD. It just seemed so high for her!! I will say our coaches were diligent about spotting when the girls first started. That's so scary!! Bless her heart! I really hope it doesn't end up being 6 months like they said.

Ugh. That stinks. That squat on/jump to the high bar is really challenging. I'm so sorry your daughter is hurt.

I'm sorry for your daughter and you. Must not have been easy to see her in pain like that. I hope she heal fast and well so she won't need 8 months to come back to gymnastics.

That's certainly one thing I like in the category I coach. We have to be between the bars in competition, and the judges ask us to be there. I've seen one coach stop the rotation of one of his gymnast who had just slipped of the bar. That's certainly prevented her from being hurt.

Thanks for all the kind comments, I didn't let her go train today but we went a little early with to pick up older dd, and her coach let her sit with the team at end of class while they were doing splits, and conditioning, she was just watching, so she was happy.

So sorry:( sometimes ER docs can say it will take longer to get back than it actually will...I'm not a doctor or anything but just being the typical gymnast, I would see a specialist about it

Oh, poor baby, that is a scary thing. Hope she heals fully and quickly.

I'm so sorry!! Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery!!

Side note.... As a parent, I didn't realize this was a "risky" skill, really..! I do coach, but not at that level and although I totally agree that it's not as easy as it looks once you're up close to the bars, I just didn't categorize this as a hazardous one. Blessed is the ignorant, lol!

there are a lot of progressions involved, but even with a well executed proper plan and a spotter, things do happen.... no certainties in this sport....

I didn't know either, until reading about gymnasts' troubles with jumping to high bar here on CB. I've never seen a gymnast struggle with this, but I can see how it would be difficult if they are very little.

Oh, I agree, there's a risk with everything in this sport (my friends kid for instance sprained both of her ankles severely stepping off a simple 8" mat...). I see some of the smaller kids struggle a bit with the squat on and of course a fall could happen and would hurt. I guess I just kinda categorize the skills in my brain and this seemed less risky than lots of other things I see the kids do. :).
My own kid fell off bars (spectacularly, I was told!) doing a sole circle a few weeks ago and sprained her elbow.
Seems this year, the kids who have been injured at our gym have all been hurt doing small, routine things, not even skills per se. . .

I'm so sorry. I hope the next x Ray is promising and that she heals very quickly!
