I was looking on the NYS USAG online page and i found a link talking about something called mobility scores. I've never heard of these before and was wondering if they really must be met. I'm level 8 trying to move up to 9. I will have the skills needed to move up for next season but it says you needed to get a 34AA in a level 8 meet. I never got that AA this season because I only competed a few meets due to injury. I came closest with a 33.55 at States. Can I move up to level 9 or must I compete level 8 more until I get a 34?
No way to move up without the mobility score. You also need a 34AA to go from L9 to L10. Your gym sends in a form with your mobility score, so there is a record of what gymnasts have "qualifed" to move to the next level.

3. Athletes may not skip any level. They must advance one level at a time by scoring the minimum mobility score at any
USA Gymnastics sanctioned competition (Exception: Levels 1- 4 do not have a mobility score)
You can certainly train as an L9 next season if your coach agrees. The first time you score 34AA at an L8 sanctioned meet, you 'can' officially move and compete as an L9.
