What do y’all think about the announcement that the will soon be a National “Xcelebration”. starting in 2027? Does anyone have insights into what that will look like? How do y’all think it will impact the Xcel program? Will more athletes be interested in continuing to upper level Xcel rather than switching over to DP optionals if there is an opportunity to attend nationals?

Is it going to be a real championships? I feel like if it's not truly competitive, a lot of gyms won't be interested. There are already a lot of strong gyms in our area who opt out of regionals.

The gym where I coached Xcel was very intentionally low cost/low commitment so I could see those types of programs not being interested.

Attending “ Nationals” seems to be a highly prized ritual in American youth sports culture. If you aren’t going broke on travel expenses, is your kid even good? I’ll bet they slice and dice the age groups to maximize the number of medalists. They do that with boys Western Nationals. It makes for happy customers.

I think it’s so exciting for these girls to have an event that really celebrates their joy of gymnastics! I think it will be better attended if it’s held in a central location near a major airport, so travel is easier for everyone. I’m also glad they’re keeping it to Platinum through Sapphire, since that keeps the focus on the athletes this program was truly designed for and helps maintain competitive equity.
