well anyway.....sincei have been starting out for level 9, i realized that sometimes i tend to stress my self out in going for a skill. The other day i was doing a doubleback on ta one mat(It was kinda weird) but anyways it was alright, just when i was aabout to do it again, i just couldn't get my steps right. No, i wasn't scared. any advice on how to not get brain block? Thanks,
Chiquitagymnast! :)

Well, welcome to CB. That's an interesting little intro you gave yourself :p

To answer your question, it kind of depends on you... in general, I teach my athletes to talk to themselves while doing skills. Part of what causes a "balk" (what you are describing) is thinking about what potentially will go wrong. Instead, you need to start telling yourself all the things that are right.

What are the important parts of a double back?

If your pass is R-FF-DB

You could que yourself with:

"Straight lunge, Snap, push away, hips, KNEES, floor and KICK!"

If that mental dialogue isn't addressing what is bothering you, you need to modify it as needed.

I hope that helps... Im sure if you discuss your concerns with your coach, they will help you by doing what they know and what has helped them. Sometimes, it's as simple as going back to a basic piece to help the whole. Communication is very important.

Good luck! Be safe!

Ryan
