Put the harder stuff in the routines and accept the deductions in the sense that they are skills that require you to "pay it forward". I keep hearing the term "uptraining" and wonder if, in some gyms, it's a euphamism for "looking good is more important than doing good".

You can uptrain all you want, but those skills will languish unless there's an expectation that the skills will be included in the foreseable competitive future, as many times these are skills punctuated with a tendancy to take two steps forward and one step back until they are "locked into" muscle memory. Discontinuing them during a 4-5 month competition cycle will mean going back to square one.

IMO the best strategy is to craft a routine that can be done with or without a new element, and at the critical time of year a decision can be made to "pull" the skill a few weeks prior to a key meet where a qualifying score or placement is top priority.....

Beam deductions

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some help understanding my deductions on beam. I’ve been watching my videos back, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly where the judges are taking the most off. If anyone is willing to take a look and give me some feedback, I’d really appreciate it. I’m especially curious about execution deductions, rhythm/connection issues, and anything in my acro or dance that might be costing me. The judge started me at a 10 for this routine, and I got a 9.1
