McKusker has pulled out of selection camp due to injury. I would assume that means she can't go to worlds, although I guess that depends on the severity of the injury! If she doesn't go, I wonder what this will mean for the team selection....
If she pulled out of camp already, she is likely out for 2017. World Selection camp begins on Sept 18th

Who is invited to the Word Selection camp? I thought just the members of the National Team selected after P&G, but this article confused me, as it mentions Alyona Shchennikova who is not current National Team member

The National Team plus a few more are generally invited to Selection camp (based on results). If one of the non-National Team members were to make the World team, they would be added to the National Team at that time.

Athletes just have to have competed at P&G to be considered for an invite (or petition to be considered if couldn't compete at P&G because of injury or illness). If an athlete not currently on National team were to be selected for Worlds(or any other international assignment) they would then be put on National team.

Every little girl who has entered the crazy world of gymnastics has dreamed of the Olympics. Should one of those girls be a Level 10 JO and have the skills to compete she should be given the opportunity to win a spot to fulfill that dream. Not being able to because they didn't TEST elite and blah blah blah is plain hogwash.

According to the USAG Rules & Policies, even a level 10 needs to "test" to get to level 10 by attaining mobility scores at level 4, level 5, level 7, level 8, & level 9. How is an elite having to earn their elite compulsory & optional scores any different than a level 10 earning their multiple mobility scores throughout their JO careers? If a level 10 indeed has the skills to compete as an elite athlete and is talented enough to make a World or Olympic team, getting their elite qualification scores should be a walk in the park! There are always ways around the rules as well, for instance Laney Madsen never compete as a JO athletes, but still was able to test and qualify elite. Lexy Ramler qualified elite while she was at a gym that only competes upper level optionals, I don't believe she ever competed compulsories or lower level optionals (even at her previous gyms).

All good Points. I guess my point is the USAG is only one sanctioning body or gymnastics. Who or how were they gifted the keeper of Olympians from the USA.?

Because they are the National Governing Body (NGB) for gymnastics in the U.S. This means that the IOC and the FIG (the International Governing Body [IGB]) recognize USAG as the organization that represents our country in international competitions and the Olympics.

Many years ago, the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) was the NGB, but through a series of events and bad decisions, they lost that status to the USGF (United States Gymnastics Federation) in 1970. The USGF was the original name of USAG, and even though they became the NGB in 1970, they have existed since 1963.

Thanks for the info, nice to learn something. With that said still don't agree nor do I think they deserve the privilege st this time.

Anyone else want to make early predictions for team USA? No team competition so they will likely take best 2 all-arounders and next two spots will go to those with potential for individual event medals, that also balance each other since only 3 per country in qualifying per event. What a time for Jade Carrey to come on the scene! She seems to be a perfect complement to Ashton Locklear. Is she this years Kayla Williams?!

Ragan Smith AA
Riley McCusker AA
Ashton Locklear UB maybe BB
Jade Carrey VT FX maybe BB

So they did pick Locklear...and Smith , Carey and Morgan Hurd! Chiles is the non traveling alternate...and no Trinity Thomas. I think the Locklear pick could come back to bite them...

Agreed. She didn't show her in in bars at camp either and even with them, I think she will struggle to medal IF the Russians and Chinese hit (big if I suppose). I thought Trinity looked good on the video they released.

Without her in bar stuff, and a shaky beam, I don't get why they picked her....and even Hurd, who I love, hasn't been a bastion of consistency in big competitions so there's a risk with her too but here's hoping Hurd rises to the challenge....Locklear too but I'm just not seeing what her big value is over a Chiles or even Thomas these days...

Hurd is such a beautiful gymnast when she hits though!!! I think maybe because it's not a team worlds, consistency isn't AS important??

Our best chances at medals are in the AA, so definitely send two gymnasts to do AA. I guess they came to the conclusion that was Morgan and Ragan. No use sending a 3rd AA, only two make finals, so send event specialists with best chance at medals. Jade has good chance at vt and floor. We really have no one but Ragan(with Riley out) who has good chance at beam medal and no one but Ragan and Jade with good chance at fx medal and no one but Jade with chance on vt. That leaves Ashton who has a better chance to medal on UB than anyone else left. If Riley was still healthy she would have made a good choice at beam/bars but none of the other girls left have a better chance at individual medals than Ashton.

Maybe..and I agree, Hurd is a lovely gymnast when she hits. She just always looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. And with Locklear's history on beam, I'd even chance putting Carey up on beam if Locklear has so much as a sideways glance! She seems to get head casey about beam and once it starts, it usually ends poorly....

Yeah, I think with Riley out they pretty much threw in the towel at the chance of a beam medal other than Ragan. Really no other gymnast with enough difficulty to compete with the rest of the world.

I'm bummed that Chiles isn't going. I was holding out for a Region 2 representative! Has that EVER happened on the national scene? Poor region 2...:(
