Yes but what are the scoring consequences for a gymnast who is late/no show etc after flag raised or out of rotation...imagine if everyone just went out of rotation, clearly there are rules for a reason. My daughters score suffered by a huge margin. It was a mess for her and I thought coaches control this mix up by communicating with judges, guess not.
You said it was a good lesson for your daughter. So stick to that. It was. She learned that stuff happens at meets and hopefully next time something weird happens she won’t let it shake her and lose her focus.
Honestly I’d be more concerned about the poor gymnast that couldn’t wait to she needed to go so badly and the stress she felt when she probably thought she may not be able to compete and how frazzled SHE would have been for her routine.

At the Developmental levels, where gymnasts are there to learn, there is not a scoring consequence. They just change the order. These kids are 8! They are learning lots of things. Flexibility, sportsmanship, the ability to hold their bladder, AND gymnastics. Grace is important in this sport.

You want scoring consequences for an 8-year-old that had to use the bathroom?

Do you know the judges rules for this or deductions or rules for rotation...who controls it judges, coaches etc if there is an issue? I heard team can lose scores/points if rotation is not followed because personal opinions are cheap and often flawed. Ridiculous... my daughter was inconvenienced not the gymnast that had no idea of the problem she caused. We had only begun the meet and all left the hotel and this gymnast had ample time to go before meet but nature called I guess but this gymnast is notorious for running off also as they are young and often unfocused (my daughter is laser focused...college dream focus). I'm looking for rules and protocols not opinions. My daughters score was placed on another competitors name. That's not fair to her! Coaches should manage this I'm assuming. Who does the check and balances if things like this occur all the time according to you! Who?

Coaches should manage this as it sounds like they did. I’m sure you could look this up in the usag developmental program rules and policies.
Or you could just let it go. They’re children.

My daughter went out of rotation and her score was given to someone else. Yes I want to know why and how this is not caught and corrected before score was posted. A judge has said you lose points and team points can suffer. Do you know? Or are you just giving YOUR opinion. I want structure and protocol not a mess at comp. Are you a judge? Do you know the consequences of this? Scorewise? The judges didn't seem happy so there was some issue, and an obvious consequence may have been given. How do we know if team loses points for this? I mean if they don't salute they lose points clearly this is bigger than that. I care about scores not opinions.

And the score was changed to the appropriate gymnast, so there was no issue.

The fact that you want a penalty for an 8 year old going to the bathroom is interesting. Usually, any penalty like that affects the TEAM score, not necessarily the gymnast.

One thing I love about gymnastics is how they all support each other. This what we are wanting and should be teaching. It is a small world, and really gymnasts/parents, etc should be supportive of all gymnasts. This is a tough sport, and everyone should be supportive, especially of team members!

If you want a rule, ask your coach. But you have decades of experience here telling you that this happens, and is not that big of a deal, especially with 8 year olds.

(Oh and when you are stressed or nervous, your body makes you go to the bathroom more frequently. So, grace for the 8year old gymnast.)

Feel free to read through this:

Who changes the order? Who informs judges? Is this done before or after a gymnast competes? Who ensures gymnasts get the correct scores not someone else's? Yes grace but fairness is also key.

Scores being flashed under the incorrect name and subsequently corrected happens all the time. Competition orders getting shuffled for whatever reason happens all the time. Kids needing to use the restroom at inconvenient times happens all the time.

These are all non-issues.

At this age, the only practical purpose that meets serve is getting kids used to competing. Nothing of consequence rides on the outcome, and even less rides on things like this that don't really affect the outcome.

I don't know if there are specific rules about what to do if a kid misses her turn because she needs to use the bathroom, but I don't know that such rules are needed; at some point you just have to trust that the coaches and judges will figure it out, the meet will keep going, and the world will keep spinning.

The protocol for if the next gymnast is up, but not present is- coach informs the judge. This may be done before or after the routine- if after, they may be scored under the wrong name and it will be corrected. Names are unrelated to scores. Coach should be keeping an eye on the order so they can give gymnasts more advanced notice on when they are up- [OPINION] but honestly, on the catastrophic issues scale of 1-10, this instance sounds like a 1, especially considering your description of her ability to be laser focused.

No order was changed ahead of time because they assumed the gymnast would be back in time. The coach would typically notify the judges if they have this information ahead of time.
Since this was a situation unfolding in real time, they handled it after the fact. Your daughter would not have been aware during her routine that her name was going to come up wrong on the scoreboard.
There was no unfairness here. Your daughter did not lose points for the other gymnast being late. She had deductions because of how she performed her routine, not because of another gymnast’s trip to the bathroom.

Having read many of your posts including your abusive coaches, I would suggest a few things. Yes, talk to your coaches about trying to mitigate those things but as many have said, these are little kids. I definitely don’t know the rules when it comes to this despite having had two daughters in gymnastics and now a 10 year old currently a level 7. I get that it may have affected your daughter’s score but I know as a team we cheer each other on and help wherever we can. Your daughter is at the very early part of her gymnastics life and one score at one meet is not going to determine her future success. Just keep a healthy perspective on things.
