Hi all! This is my first post.
I was really interested in the discussion about athletes using XCEL to skip DP compulsories, and I wanted to explore a related topic: the upcoming XCEL Nationals.
There’s been a new rule about needing to petition back into DP if you’ve competed at State in another program, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s connected to Nationals—maybe as an effort to draw clearer lines between tracks?
Out of curiosity, I compared two regions: Region 8, where XCEL is often used to bypass compulsories, and Region 2, where that’s less common (for now). With a quick look at last year’s Gold Regionals, I found that the top AA score in Region 2 would have placed 50th in Region 8. That’s a pretty big gap and raises some questions about how equitable a national meet would be under the current structure.
Curious what others think!
Here’s the new rule:
RULES & POLICIES: Recommendation to require any athlete who has prior competitive experience in the Development Program and then competes in a State meet under an alternative program (e.g., Xcel or another gymnastics organization) to submit a petition in order to re-enter the Development Program at Level 5 or higher.
● Levels 5–8: Petitions must be submitted to the State Administrative Committee (SAC).
● Levels 9–10: Petitions must be submitted to the Regional Administrative Committee (RAC).
MOTION: Kittia Carpenter (R5)
SECOND: Paige Roth (R4)
