I've recently moved gyms, and the gym that I go to now has pretty high standards. You have to do basically the "gold level skills" and then some. But before I started working the skills into a routine, I wanted to make sure that the skills are allowed in level 8, and if they are A, B, C, or something else.

Bars:
~Hect
~Straddle back
~Pac Salto
~Double back dismount

Beam:
~Cartwheel backhandspring
~Round off layout dismount
~Switch leap
~1/4 straddle jump
~1 1/2 turn

Floor:
~Front layout full
~ Back layout 1 1/2
~Switch side
~Shushonova

Vault:
~Yurchenko
~Tsuk Layout
~Tsuk tucked with any twisting

Thanks! I just want to make sure that I'm not breaking any rules!

-Lauren

hects on bars is level 9.
Tsuk tucked with any twisting level 7
Double back dismount level9
thanks for the post it really got me thinking!

I could be missing something, but just a start. I'm sure someone else can provide more info.

Vault:
Tucked Tsuk with 1/2 twist is okay- nothing more
Layout Tsuk is not

Bars:
Pak, double back not allowed
Not sure about the hecht mount

Beam:
I think everything you listed is okay

Floor:
Front layout 1/1 is not allowed

Bars:
~Hect-- if you mean a toe hecht, it's not allowed
~Straddle back-- can do a straddle back as long as it's not to handstand
~Pac Salto-- no
~Double back dismount-- no

Beam is fine.

Floor:
~Front layout full-- no
~ Back layout 1 1/2-- no
~Switch side-- yes
~Shushonova-- yes

Vault:
~Yurchenko-- through a pike
~Tsuk Layout-- no
~Tsuk tucked with any twisting-- only a 1/2

For Level 8, you need 4 As and Bs. No Cs allowed with the exception of cast handstand, clearhip handstand, and clear hip handstand 1/2 on bars and C dance skills on bars and beam.

Bars:
~Hect- toe hecht from low bar to high bar is a C, not allowed
~Straddle back- B, allowed. If it finishes in handstand, it's a C and not allowed.
~Pac Salto- D, not allowed
~Double back dismount- C (if piked or tucked), not allowed

Beam:
~Cartwheel backhandspring- A + B, fine
~Round off layout dismount- B + A, fine
~Switch leap- C. Okay because it is dance.
~1/4 straddle jump- C, okay because it is dance.
~1 1/2 turn- B , fine

Floor:
~Front layout full- C, not allowed. Front layout or layout 1/1 is a B.
~ Back layout 1 1/2- C, not allowed. You can do a back layout 1/1 for a B.
~Switch side- C, allowed, because you can have C dance.
~Shushonova- B, fine.

Vault:
~Yurchenko- yurckenok tuck is a 9.8, and pike is a 10.0
~Tsuk Layout- not allowed
~Tsuk tucked with any twisting- tsuk tuck is a 9.8 start value, tsuk tuck 1/2 is a 10.0

Don't your coaches tell you what skills to work on and do in your routines? Presumably in an optional training group you'll have to work on skills you won't be competing. It takes too long to get the higher level skills otherwise. You work on a lot of skills and then the coaches will give you more input closer to the season which are appropriate to compete. But that doesn't mean you won't be training them.

I'm so glad that straddle backs are allowed! They are pretty fun!

Just wondering, what happens if you accidentally hit handstand on the straddle back? And what's the limit to how low you can go in a straddle back? Are judges pretty nice about them unless you completely stop in your handstand?

Thanks so much for the input!

-Lauren

If you "accidentally" hit handstand on a straddle back, it's still .5 off your SV and no credit for the skill (e.g. probably another hit to the SV because you wouldn't get credit for the release and/or you might be missing a B). There isn't a limit to how low you can go, but there's an up to .1 deduction if you catch lower than horizontal.
