I know there is a specific deduction for this "Alternate foot placement" but I can't remember the range.. approx. .1-.3?
I find a lot of gymnasts don't spend a lot of time in squat ons, so aren't very comfy in the balanced position... imagine how many seconds you've held a handstand over your life compared to the amount of seconds you've held a squat on... I'm guessing a very, very small fraction.
So getting on a floor bar and standing on it balanced for a long time is good - same with balancing in the squat position for a long time.
Then same thing on a higher bar once you've gained confidence. Aim to balance so well that -you- decide when you jump forward instead of being forced to jump when you lose balance.
I also like squat-on, squat off (return to front support from squat), but I think this will be tricky for you until you've resolved the alternate foot placement.
