Over the summer, we had an awesome student to instructor ratio at 11:1. Once meet season got underway and levels were decided we moved to 5.5:1. Still a very nice ratio and effective I think.

I do think some of the larger gyms who bring thirty to forty gymnasts at each level bring some girls who would not be accepted on our team, but as it doesn't affect my daughter, i would never be so rude as to say that to one of their parents.

At our gym, if you aren't consistently hitting those level defining skills (kip, flic salto, over the table) by the time we move from summer practice to fall practice hour, then you don't compete that level. Not saying it is right or wrong and not criticizing those gymmies who aren't there yet, just saying they wouldn't be competing that level at our gym.

At a recent meet, i saw some big gyms bring huge level five teams and several of them missed their kip. We are about a month away from state and none of our girls miss that skill. I saw beam leaps with little amplitude that would not be allowed to compete 5 at our gym.

I don't know the ins and out of every gym and their philosophy but I'm glad that all competitive gymnasts end op finding a home gym that works for them.
