Im an excel gold currently. I’ve always been very afraid of my flyaway even off the pit bar. But I lost it shortly after. A few months ago I had an ulgy one into the pit for about a week. I have 2 main problems. The first being I feel like I can’t get a proper grip on the bar. Even with chalk it always feels like I’m gonna peal off. The second problem is very related to the first, it’s that I can’t get my tap swings high enough. I’ve tried to talk to my coach about this but they mostly dismiss it and tell me that I just need to send it. Wondering if anyone has any tips or advice that you think might help.
 
Sounds like the issue isn't the flyaway, but the tap swings. Focus on those first.

Once you have a good tap swing, pay close attention to the way the bar bends. You should feel it bending down and back as you approach the bottom of the swing, and feel it snap back into place as your feet tap up and forward in the swing. Use that snap to slingshot you into your release.
 
Gold coach here! My philosophy when it comes to flyaways is that your tap swing really does not need to be that high. You want to get away from the bar, especially if you're doing a layout. I would focus on the speed of your swing. The quicker you can snap from a hollow to the arch at the bottom of the swing, and into your tap in the front, the faster your swings will be. If you can tap quickly, then you should have no issues rotating fully. As for your loose grip, the main issue is probably your body tension while you're on the bar. Make sure you are squeezing your core and absolutely engaging your shoulders. If your movements are not consistent or you do not have a proper rhythm, this can lead to a weaker grip as well.
