In our area it would. Finally convinced DD to smile when she salutes and it was amazing her scores went up by a few 10th. I think, especially when they are little, the judges like to see they are having fun.

Something I have found that works great for floor routines is.....have one girl perform while all the other girls are standing around the outside of the floor, spread out. During the routine the performer needs to make eye contact with and smile at as many outside girls as possible, of course within the routine where it makes sense. When an outside girl sees she made eye contact she sits down.
 
I have read about college teams doing this. College gymnasts really preform every routine and emphasize the end. The routines have much more enthusiasm than in JO.
 
We have played that game and they love it so we'll do it again. The only problem is that they tend to forget about other corrections.
