Witch Doctors???

Ok so on Monday I hurt my feet pretty badly and one of my friends goes to what we call a 'witch doctor'.
Apparantly they scan your foot and it gives it a sort of massage by sending in some sort of electronic waves (I'm sorry I don't remember what my friend was saying to me)
I was wondering if anyone knows ANWYTHING about this sort of treatment.

Is it ultrasound?
If it is i have got it done before, its a painless procedure and its just to speed up the healing process. I have got it on my ankle before when i went to physio. They put this jelly stuff on and then take a little wand and rub it all over that area.

I found it help a little over time and it gradually got better. Not sure if it was natural healing or if it was the ultrasound.
