competing something you feel you not ready for

Is it normal for a coach to have someone compete a new skill when the athlete and/or other coaches dont feel they are ready for? My coach is having me compete my pike tsuk on Sunday but i feel im not ready for. About 75% of the time I land on or hit my head on the floor. I really dont feel it is...

    Anybody competing hearing impaired gymnasts?

We have the potential to start competing a little compulsory developmental level gymnast who is hearing impaired. Does anybody know the leeway given as to being able to keep rhythm/tempo with music or how to communicate warning and time on beam. She isn't competing yet, but if we have to jump...

    Competing or practice?

I am wondering which do you guys like the best? For those of you who have competed. I definitely find practice more fun, and like it more. I like to have the chance to try something over if I make a mistake...and I like throwing new skills into pits and whatnot, which you cannot do at competition.

Coaches Competing level 3 states (mirrored from parents' section)

I'll be honest: I don't like to compete level 3 at all. I think a strong focus on competition at that level is counterproductive in and of itself; add to that the fact that the level 3 routines are terrible from a developmental perspective. I especially dislike the level 3 vault and bars.

Parents Thoughts on L3 competing at state meets?

I will start by saying I am not overly experienced with all of this. Having said that, I think that having L3 compete at state meets is silly. The reason I think this is that its supposed to be a developmental level no? Sure, gain some experience with local meets but anything beyond that, is...

    Parents Who's competing this weekend??

Well, it's finally here!! Olivia's first Level 6 meet is tomorrow. And of course we have the very first session and have to report by 7:30am. We live almost 2 hours away from this gym so we will be leaving my house at 5:30. And, it may be snowing when we get up so I hope we don't run...

    Parents not competing?

If a girl wanted to uptrain but not compete is that possible in many gyms? Say a girl competed levels 4-6 and then didn't want to compete but wanted to still progress and possibly return to competition at a higher level in 2-3 years, is there a track available for that many places?

    Daughter competing

My daughter is competing in the I love ny cup in Jan. 2010. She wants to compete both USAG and USAIGC. USAIGC is what she definitely wants to do, but also wants to do USAG. This is her 1st year in USAG. Her coach says it's ok to do both, but says many girls pick 1 league to compete in. Should...

Competing on a NCAA team without scholarship?

Does anyone do this? Or are all the gymasts on NCAA teams recruited and offered scholarships? Do they have "try outs" or "walk-ons" and how do you find out about those? How often does a college take a "walk-on" on their team? Just wondering how this all works since I am totally ignorant. :o

Competing NAIGC for intercollegiate clubs and alumni

NAIGC I just came across this recently as a local NAIGC club has been working out at our gym in the summer. An interesting alternative if you cannot compete in college because you can't find a NCAA college or get on a team, scholarship, etc and still want to be compete. You can see...

T&T Tell me everything you know about competing trampoline and tumbling!

I am thinking of competing trampoline, double mini and power tumbling. I am in the US and I am an adult if that matters. I have so many questions I don't know where to start. I do realize I need to talk to my coach but I want some ideas off here first. How many competitions do you normally do...

    Boys competing with girls

My daughter competes in the YMCA league. All of the events are "girls" events. There is a boy on her team. Do you think he has an advantage over the girls?

T&T Competing tumbling/tramp at older age?

I am 26 years old and I am interested in competing power tumbling, trampoline and double mini. Is this an impossible dream? Is the sport mainly just for people begining at younger ages? I have noticed some older males but not many older females. I don't know what exact level I would be at but I...

Parents benefits to competing level 2?

The gyms closest to our home all compete Level 2. My daughter loves gymnastics but is not a "power player" type and will probably be 7 by the time she would get there, so it's not like she'd be very young. But what are the benefits? Either they've changed or I've been misinformed, but I...

    Competing After High School...

I was wondering what is the maximum age you can compete in USAG? Beetle has a teammate that is graduating high school this year. She is going to college at a local University. Can she still train and compete USAG? She is a level 7 this year.. I don't know if she wants to keep competing...
