    Fear of Spotting

My DD has never really liked being spotted doing any skills on the balance beam but now this is carrying over to the bars. The girls were on the strap bar (channel bar) practicing long hang pullovers but Alex just would not go because the coach was there to spot her. She said she would have been...

Fear of going backwards, please help!

Ok, so a while ago, I was practicing my backwards walkovers and I sort of fell over, but I didn't land on my head or injure myself or anything but it gave me a real scare. Anyway in real gymnast spirit I got back up and did my walkover again and I was fine. Anyway, a few weeks later the same...

    Parents Fear So Young *UPDATE*

Thanks to all of you again for your advice. Cheyenne has been to 3 classes now and has shown amazing improvement each week, so much that she was moved up a level this week at her 3rd class. She loves gymnastics and I'm so happy that she is gaining confidence and overcoming her fears.

    conquering fear?

Can anyone give me advice on how to get over fear of a skill? Some of you may know I've been having trouble with my back handspring for awhile. I started twisting it one day out of no where. One of the ones I twisted ended up with me landing on my forehead and with my arm pinned under me...

    Parents Fear so young??

Hi everyone. I don't think I've posted on this board before :). A little history... I used to be a gym owner/instructor, but I closed last April. My gym started out gymnastics and turned cheerleading as I lost all of my equipment in a move and there was a higher demand for all star cheer. I was...

    Fear about injuries

Hi Coaches, You may remember my earlier posts. My DD injured her wrist the first week of August. She just got back, and was really excited about being able to do her flick on beam when she broke her finger doing that skill. She has not been able to do much gym, other than conditioning for...

We invite the entire team on Friday (regardless of level) and we form teams with a well rounded mix of levels on each team, usually three different teams. We start...

    FEAR and PHOBIAS

How do you handle fear? Both as a gymnast and as a coach concerning the gymnast? What can a parent do to help their child overcome fear? Fear can be an impediment to learning. At the same time fear is also a safety mechanism that helps humans recognize and avoid peril. But what if we choose to...
