I am hoping some of the members here have been around the block with leotard issues and may have some advice.
Background: My dd's optional team got new competitive leotards this year. At the first meet the HC was alerted to the fact that the leotards were cut too high (judges actually...
Hello friends. One of my students is having difficulty with her standing back handspring and I'm having trouble pinpointing the exact problem. For a while I was spotting her often, but she was not improving, so I figured she might be relying on me too much. I changed my strategy and started...
My DD's coach was talking to me tonight about her frustration with my DD losing her connection on her beam series. It was a pleasant enough conversation with no ready solution of course. On the car ride home, DD asked me if HC and I were talking as friends or as "gymnastics people" so I was...
My DD is about to compete her first level 5 meet of the season and she still doesn't have her flyaway. Her coach prefers that his gymnasts do a layout flyaway instead of a tucked one. The problem is that her timing is off and releases too soon, therefore doesn't have enough time to land on her...
My dd is always told by her coach to make sure her legs are straight, dd is a skinny little thing with hardly an fat on her (if any), she seems to be quite good at what she does but her knees are always letting her down, she has a competition coming up in s couple of weeks and needs to try and...
Ok...I know what I'm about to ask may seem trivial to the masses...but for my DD and slowly becoming to me, it's a big deal.
Although I won't be using her real name, I hope my point and question are clear enough.
My DD goes my her "nickname" which is a shortened version of her birth name. For...
I recently had a back injury, which obviously led me to not train/condition.
I started training again about a month ago, and my kips have been terrible! I am hardly making any kips (long hang/glide) and it's stressing me out.
I believe that there are several factors that are contributing to my...
I just needed a place to get out my worries, I guess. YDDs old pediatrician diagnosed her with a thyroid issue right before our move, and we are still waiting to be able to see an endocrinologist for that.
Today, her new pediatrician said she believes there is a possibility that YDD also has...
Ever since the beginning of spring, I have started to develop issues about how my hand placement is when I do skills (especially kips) on bars. I do not know if this is just a personal problem that I am having, but I'm trying to find somebody who can help/relate?
For example, my grips (no...
My dd is 6 1/2 and is a new level 2. She had her first meet last weekend and did okay over all except that she scratched her vault because she had to be spotted. She was the only one on her team that needed to be spotted and there was only one other in the meet. She's feeling discouraged because...
My dd can't seem to manage a decent front handspring on the floor or on the vault. She is a level 4 and has had all of her skills for almost a year now but this is giving her trouble. It's not a strength issue she can just about do the level 5 bar routine and has her back tuck on floor. She also...
Since we just moved to a new town both DDs started a new school last week. Older DD was assigned to choir as her elective. Today the choir "contract" came home stating when the concerts would be (there are 5) and stating that students who miss a concert would be docked two full letter grades...
I could use some advice! My daughter started gymnastics a year ago. She will be 5 in a couple of months. We just changed gyms, because the gym she was at decided to no longer offer any team options and only offer rec. Since we wanted her to be at a gym where she could eventually progress to...
Hi so my problem is that my tumbling is really slow and I don't use the bounce in the floor so I'm just doing standing tumbling almost. My round off back handspring is really good, and same with FHS (rebound like two feet in the air) but as soon as I throw a salto in there, I start to bend my...
Can I possibly PM a couple of people with a situation that happened at the gym today? Preferably a parent of a dd aged around 7 and also someone who is a coach and coaches this age. Thank you.
Well, I was hoping to update on dd10 (lvl 7) and flyaway issues that I asked about in the spring. It seemed to be coming back over the summer. But after some comments last week by coach that she "wasn't trying", we are back in the same boat with dd very upset, stressed out about being moved...

I'm having a lot of issues opening my shoulders in skills such as giants and free hips/free hip handstand.
My shoulders are very flexible and fairly strong. I think I may stick my head out in these skills also- could that be a reason why my shoulders won't open? Thanks for replies
DD is having troubles when she attempts a double twist. She's competed a 1.5 since March or so and does it well. She's landed a double ONCE, about three months ago. Now whenever she attempts the double, she can't even eek out a 1.5, and looks like a floppy mess and lands on her back in the...
Is there anything you can do as a parent for a gymnast with fear issues? DD seemed to be making slower progress than was originally speculated and we had a meeting with coaches who dropped the bombshell that she's being badly held back by fear issues. She's 11 and looking at potentially doing...
