I know it's not the biggest skill, but I was so proud of my daughter last night when she got her back handspring on high beam. Three days ago she could barely do it on low beam
She also nailed 8/9 standing back tucks last night which is also new for her.
Thanks for listening...
after state this season, our gym is having a few girls move to the prep optional program from level 5 and i get to coach these girls. i have never coached prep optional before i do not know what i'm doing basically.... i know the basis on how it works and i have the requirements from the USAG...
I've posted before about the gym i am currently attending and the troubles with it but recently things came to an all time low.:(
We no longer have ANY optionals, and i am currently the highest level in USAG (training 7 but i don't count myself quite optional yet). The gym offers another option...
Ok so ive been thinking about this for awhile, im a level 7 gymnast and was wondering what does a judge look for in a floor and beam routine? Since these are two events where you actually have choreography and skills differ a lot, i waswondering what the judges like to see. I would really...
Just had my level 6 state meet! I fell on my back tuck on floor but the rest of the routine was nice, and I got 4th place all around and vault, 6th bars, 2nd on beam. WHICH MEANS...I'm done with compulsories! FOREVER! High scores of the season:
All-around: 35.2 ish
Bars: 8.55 ish
Beam: 9.325...
Our gym defines itself as an optional level gym. We have a large optional team for our area and our optional girls do well with some going on to college gymnastics. Here is my question - our first comp year is Level 4 and our girls don't compare well with other gyms. I don't think this bothers...
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions, but I am not sure who else to ask, so here goes...just a few questions about young optional gymnasts and elite gymnastics:
Is it possible to go through the JO levels (through L 10) and then decide to persue elite gymnastics...
Hello!
I think I've asked this before but need to hear it again! LoL
my dd just turned 8 last month and just started her level 5 season.
Her level 5 looks like it's starting off just like her level 4.
She ends up with middle of the road scores. I'm always blown away by so many in her age...
How often do you have your gymnasts train vault? My daughter is trying to learn a level 8 vault. Floor, beam and bars seem to be worked on almost every practice, but they seem to often not do vault. It seems to me the way to learn a new skill is to work on it often, at least some at every...
Anyone have opinions on the USAG prep optional program?
I've done a bit of research on-line, however there is not a ton of information available.
Regardless, what I would really like to hear is opinions from other parents or coach's regarding the program, I feel your opinions on this forum...
I picked my best routines from each day of the two day meet to share.

Hi everyone!
I'm hoping to compete at the AAU Age Group Nationals and Junior Olympic Games next year (I know, it's a while off, but I need the year for progressing!) but I haven't competed since I was level 4! I took some years off, needless to say.
Anyways I see that there is an...
Well, DD got to try a meet at L7 for fun. Finished states about 6 weeks ago, got beam routine 4 weeks ago, floor routine 2 weeks ago.
It was a small meet, about 7 in her age group, most having competed L7 this past season. DD doesn't have her giant, and will need them to compete in the fall...
Just wondering if there are any optional gymnasts who use a beam at home. My daughter competed level 7 this year and I'm wondering if a low beam or floor beam(and mat) would be useful to practice things like back handsprings
I am just about to be complete with my first ever level 7 and optional season, and I'd have to say that its pretty intense. Not only are the scores A LOT higher, but they are very close together (9.45, 9.425, 9.375, etc.) What are your views on optional competitions? Love them? Hate them?
If...
I have a question and figured I could probably get an answer from parents, coaches and gymnasts alike. My dd will be moving up to Level 7 over the summer. She's already talking about getting her own music for her floor routine. She's even picked out a song.:) I was talking with some of the...
I have heard people say that being a good compulsory gymnast does not neccesarily mean that you will be a good optional gymnast. Can someone please explain why that is? Thank you!
