So.....
I'm having blocks on Korbuts. One of the coaches at my gym pulled me aside and helped me do lots of drills that would make me go higher, and they worked. Yay! Only trouble is during the entire thing she kept talking about how if I didn't go high it would hurt, etc.... and I knew that...
Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with gymnasts who tend to roll an ankle whilst practising? Do you take any measure/have advice to prevent it from happening? I'm sure I'm not the only one. The problem is that it's not necessarily just doing "big" skills, yesterday I managed it doing a round...
Coming from the WAG side, I don't see a lot of roll out skills on floor.
I've noticed a lot of them in the Olympics in Men's routines. Why are they there? What is their purpose. What do they demonstrate? I'm genuinely curious.
Are two of these connected in a row worth anything? DD has been doing these in combination as well as a handstand back extension roll combo. She does both passes well. She will be competing the backhandspring not in combo with anything. She is training 7. Just curious what these things are worth.
I would like to purchase these new roll out mats for our small town recreational program (that is set up / take down twice a week), but I don't have any experience with them. From what I see, they come in different thickness 1 3/8" or 2". We only have enough money to buy 2, to make one long...
My daughter is having trouble with this darn roll! Any tips on getting this down? She has watched Youtube videos but can't figure out how to begin it like she sees others do - she is trying to power over using all upper body instead of how others seem to "push" with their feet...how do you do...
Does this meet the Level 6 requirements for beam?. DD was working on it for Level 5 instead of the BWO, but now the team is doing 6 instead. She is doing really well with it. I think it is actually a beautiful skill , but wondering if she can now use it.
Hello everyone! I have a meet tomorrow, and at my last one I tried a half up half down bun that I do at practice. (Like McKayla Maroney's.) But it came down after I started on floor. I have a backwards roll in my routine, so it can't be a ponytail. (My hair is long, thick, yet fine. It's...
Help. Ours are awful. Out of 9 Level 3s, I only have 1 that does a really good one.
Looking at other teams versus my team leads me to believe it's a coaching problem. These kids are good at most other things, so I'm missing something in teaching them these. We've done them down the cheese...
I coach a recreational gymnastics session and there is a child who is scared of doing fwd rolls. She isn't the lightest of people, so it may be that she's afraid of collapsing on herself. I've tried to get her to do them down a slope and on a tumble track filled with air, but she just can't get...
It's my 4y/o daughter's second week in her new pre-team class - same gym, new teacher. After watching her second full class of cartwheeling on her right leg and kicking over with her left leg, I made a point to go mention it to her new coach. The info seemed well received but I'm paranoid. Is...
I was working back extension roll (hands all the way together) for clear hip circle this morning. My shoulder "popped" in the HS and has been quite uncomfortable since then but I finished practice. What could have happened and should I be worried about it?
I can do a bent and straight arm back extension roll on trampoline, I can do a bent arm on floor, but today I started the straight arm and I can't do it on the ground.
I guess I am definitely strong enough, but I just don't get it.
Is it possible to get a perfect straight arm back extension...

So who competes forward roll on beam (ie countries and levels) and what does it lead to?
We don't do it at all here in Australia (that I know of) and it just sounds uncomfortable to me, lol.
My DD is 8 turning 9 this year. She is currently achieving lots of new skills, one she did today was a handstand forward roll on high beam. She is relatively new to competitive gymnastics and I'm just learning as she goes too (a lot of info from here) but this has me thrown. I've never seen one...
Well, my 6 year old DD broke her arm in practice this week. I watched it happen. Her coach tried several new skills with the girls that day, and the dive roll was one of them. She stacked a few foam blocks from the pit, and the girls had to jump over them into a roll. (It did NOT appear to me...
Does anyone know the value of a Higgins Roll? My DD said she was told it was a C. I saw one place online that said a B. She also said it counts as a release since you let go of the bars to regrip prior to connecting it to the bail. I just can't see this being worth much in her routine. Looks...
