Does anyone have any advice on how to do a good back extension roll? I can do a pretty good one with a panel mat but on the floor its horrible.
Hi, I'm not sure what this trick is called but you go into a backwards roll and push up to a handstand...Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. It is SO hard for me to get into a handstand from the roll. It just seems like you need an incredible amount of strength.
Any advice?
Hey everyone,
I have a couple of kids that are having trouble with the backward roll to handstand. I have tried many different drills and just wondering if you guys know any other drills that could help with this skill??
Thanks!!
The NYS USAIGC bronze uneven bars and floor champion for the 6-8 year old division is . . . . Jess ! ! !
WHOOOT! So proud!
she also placed 4th on beam and 5th on vault . . she's never placed for vault!
3rd all around
This was the first time she competed against kids her age and she...
My daughter is a L3 gymnast.
Though she works hard at it, she simply cannot get her Backward Pike Roll without bending her arms. If she keeps her arms stright, she gets stuck on her head and falls over sideways.
I have tried to get her to keep her head tucked and drive her hips, but she...
:)i have a competition on 14 of feb and i have only 2 weeks in gym 2 train (2 classes) i have a small beam at home and a trampoline (14 ft) im having trouble :(with my straddle lever -i just cant seem to get it , my leg lifts on high bar -only get half way up, my bckward roll to front support...
I teach a beginner competitive class, and in their routine they need to be able to do the connection back pike to tuck- tuck to straddle roll (i really hope that makes sense). Its basically two rolls connected, but I'm having a huge problem with a few of my gymnastics going over thier shoulders...
My gymnast is newly competing level 5, doing great. The one thing currently giving her trouble, of all things, is the back extention roll w/ straight arms. This is a skill she had (briefly), but then her neck and back were sore and she avoided them for a few weeks, and now she's not popping...
Hi. I'm hoping to get some tips from some of you on the L4 backward roll to a push-up position. Just about everytime my DD does this, she ends up going splat on her stomach at the end of the roll once her feet hit the floor. I can't figure out why this happens. Sometimes it seems as if she is...
DD is having trouble on her dive roll. She is piking and we can't seem to get her to not pike and I think part of it might be that she doesn't understand what the coaches are trying to tell her to do to fix it. Can anyone give me some tips and/or drills that she can work on to help her work on...
What would you call a forward while on your belly-starting in a seal position, rolling forward while bringing your legs up over your head and rolling? Is there a name for it? I don't think it's an actual gymnastics skill maybe rthymic though. Ingymmom's dd does it she calls it a freaky...
I quickly made a little film of her doing a few rolls and summersaults on vault just now. So I will see if I can remember how to put it right in this post. It is a shame I didn't get her cartwheel this time, but she can do that on beam too. She started learning that last Summer, when we trained...
This is one skill that my dd has been working on for a long time and she just can't seems to figure it out. She is at the point now that she goes up into the handstandthen immediately "crumples" (my word for how it looks) into a ball and rolls out. She has no clue how to lean in the handstand...
I know this is simple but I'm running out of ideas.
I have a gymnast in one of the recreational classes I coach who just cannot learn to do a forward roll. She is 6 years old and has been doing gymnastics since Sept. She does not seem to understand the concept of being tucked and rarely...
My level 3/4s just can't seem to figure out how to keep their arms straight on their back extension rolls (to pike for the 3s and push up shape for the 4s). They are able to do the following drills:
1. straight arm roll off a pannel mat (only two pannels high)
2. Sit, roll back wards, slam...
The only skill i can't do in the compulsory floor routines is the back extension rolls. I either end up in an extremely arched handstand and then fall back into a bridge, or a end up flat one the ground with my hands under my hips, laying on my stomach. It always hurts my shoulders, too. Is...
Hi -- I'm trying to figure out a better way to teach my beginner girls how to do standing dive rolls. I've tried a few different techniques: explaining the mechanics, demonstrating, using towels/pillowcases for them to dive over, etc., but truthfully watching them do the skill is painful even...
Few weeks ago a severe accident happened in Hungary. A very promising 17 years old gymnast Zsolt Virag fellt into his head from a 1 and 1/2 somersault to roll, and got very serious injury. Currently he can not move his legs, and waits for stem cell treatment...
Zsolt knew this move very well...
Does anyone have any ideas for helping beginners to "get" their handstand forward rolls? Most of my beginning gymnasts hate doing them and I try to think of different ways to SHOW and TELL them what to do and I've been trying different stations during our floor time such as walking their feet...
