My DD just got officially moved up to Xcel Platinum. She has all her skills, but is still working on connecting her bar routine. Her routine is kip cast free hip kip squat on hb kip cast layout flyaway. She can connect the high bar fine, and her kip squat on is good, but she is still struggling with the kip cast free hip. Any tips to share with her?

It really depends what it looks like. It’s hard to know what she may be doing wrong. Some of the things that first come to mind are making sure that from her Kip cast she is dropping the bar to the correct position that her Kip and cast have nice straight arms and that her Kip cast is powerful. Sorry that’s not a lot of help but it’s hard if you can’t see what the problem is. Connecting usually comes with time the stronger her skills get the easier it will be to connect.

Congratulations on your daughter's achievement! To help her with the kip cast free hip connection, emphasize a strong and controlled kip, focusing on generating momentum for the cast. Break down the movement into drills, practice isolated kips and casts.

Connected Kip series are important. To be ready for the clear hip series she should be able to consistently connect a series of 3 kips.

which aspect of the skill is the struggle. Can she Kip cast handstand? Kip out of a cast handstand? Kip out of the clear hip?

She's had her kip for almost three years, and has straight arms, and she automatically

She has a strong, good form straight arm kip and she has for a while so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the kip itself. she automatically casts out of it, her problem is getting the cast high enough to free-hip out of it.
