I don't know anything about how scoring works adn I'm rather new to gymnastics. My daughter will compete new L3 in the fall. She keeps doing the 3/4 handstand from the old L4 beam routine instead of the new complete handstand. If this were to happen in a meet would she get any points for doing the handstand, but not going up all the way or would it be just the same as if she didn't do the element. Also, I was wondering if you fall of the beam is there a bigger deduction?

There is a deduction of up to 0.30 for failing to achieve vertical in a handstand. If she did the 3/4 HS, she would probably lose somewhere in the 0.20-0.30 range depending on who was judging for failure to hit vertical, plus any deductions for form issues such as flexed feet or bent legs.

A fall on beam is a 0.50 deduction, just like a fall anywhere else.

[All based on USAG JO rules]
