The best gift was professional photos. It’s nice for the girls to get something but as a parent I would prefer a less expensive meet fee entry and no gift/small gift. My daughter doesn’t need a leotard from every meet and getting these extras only drives the meet fees up. It would be nice to see something different instead of leotards, maybe a shirt instead.

have any meets recently handed out practical gifts like grip bags or reusable water bottles? Our gym has been leaning toward useful stuff instead of decorative keepsakes, and the girls really seem to like that better. Just wondering if that trend is catching on elsewhere or if people still prefer fun, themed items over practical ones.

My daughter had a meet last year that gave her a metal water bottle and a coaster.

I have a boy and, if they get a gift, it’s usually a tee shirts. Once he got quality “recovery lotion” and some “rip balm”. He still uses that stuff. Tee shirts and digital photos are always appreciated. Plastic credentials and cheap bags are the worst because they go right in to the trash. I’d rather get nothing than get a bunch of plastic trash!

The best gift of all is an efficient well-run awards presentation with an announcer who speaks clearly with enthusiasm and assistants who actually care about making sure the correct kids get the correct medals and that everyone stands in the correct places on the podium for pictures. Nothing ruins a meet like Charlie Brown’s teacher doing the awards.
