Hi, has anyone seen any research on appropriate finish times for pre-teens? I've seen research on recommended hours of training, but little on finish times (other than recommended hours of sleep). Our club has finish times almost an hour later than other clubs in our area. How late is too late after a day of school?

It's also important to consider how long it actually is before they go to bed though, if you want to have a shower, eat dinner, etc after you get home. If you are going to bed at 10pm, then waking up at 7am, and then doing it all again the next day, that could be heavy.

I suggest you ask some parents or maybe even athletes at your gym and see what they think.

It depends on when school starts in your area. Kids need time to drive home, eat, shower, and get the recommended hours of sleep before waking up for school. The time will be different depending on whether school starts at 7am or 9am. Where we life, elementary school starts at 8am and gym ends at 8pm. That’s really cutting it close for many of the little boys. A minute later would be crazy for that age.

My girls finished at 8:30 pm for their entire club careers … and we had a 1.5-2 hour drive home after that . I would drive home with the lights on in my minivan like i was a city bus and they would eat their dinners (that i brought) and finish up homework. When we got home at 10:30-11 pm, they jumped in the shower and went to bed.

Their school started at 9 am and that was a huge help with this because they weren’t getting up at 6-7 am the next day…

Im in the xcel program so our youngest girls are 7 and our oldest are in highschool. The bronzes (the lowest) leave at seven thirty silver(my level) leaves at eight and gold and platinum leave at eight thirty so im a pre teen and that seems normal in my area
