I would imagine that it is different in the UK than in the US due to tax codes and such. I'm not sure of all of the ins and outs of starting one; but to Pam-Da-Gmnast's question as to what one is, in theory it is an organization of the parents of a club (what ever activity - band, gymnastics, football, etc). The club does fundraisers and also has dues that you pay. The money is then spit up to help cover the expenses for the activity. For gymnastics it often covers warmups, competition leos, meet fees, coaches' fees, maybe a team party, etc. Sometimes they are set up as a not for profit; but that can be tricky if what you pay in directly goes to your specific child. One CB member has told me about her child's booster club - the booster dues are very minimal each year; but they do some amazing fundraising. The parents all volunteer for the fundraising and they raise enough money that airfare and hotel rooms are covered for travel meets as well as camp for the kids in the summer!
