Not saying they are. But gymnastics now days is filled with parents who think there priveladged and can argue with the rules a gym has set up. You don’t like it. Leave

I went back a reread her post. It says it "MAY" affect her daughters ability to join the JO team. They are still waiting on approval/answer from the director. It could be the parent talked to a coach and/or front desk person that isn't in the position to give answers to questions such as that. I fully believe attendance is important and missing MAY affect placement - but that is strictly individual to the kid, their skills and the level they are working towards. MOST teams are happy to have any kid that shows some ability and is committed. Committed doesn't mean you just signed up for the military and are now owned by the gym. I haven't noticed any parent on here thinking their kid should have the right to come and go as they please AND demand the level their child competes. I think most of us understand that time off could impact your kids' progress. It could also NOT make a difference and in some cases, the time off was a welcomed mental/physical break and they come back better than before. I think the changes in this country you referred to have to do with most parents/coaches realizing that having a hard nosed opinion about training might actually NOT the best approach for maximum results.Wh
who cares if it is or not. If that’s their policy that’s their policy. You don’t like it change gyms

We are at our gym because it works for my daughter and our family. What happens if a gymnast who takes not taking time off seriously gets to be on a team. Where the coaches choose that gymnast over urs because they have been at every session and worked their heart out. Even though ur gymnast has the skills. That gymnast gets picked. Would you get upset.
I believe the child in question is a level 4?T
thar is fine if u and ur gymnast is happy to be going through their levels as a fun sport. Unfortunately some more serious gyms who see their gymnasts going to elite levels as taking time
Off and losing muscle strength as a negative. This is why when placing ur dd into gymnastics u need to research what you are looking for. If ur looking for a fun competitive class which can only take ur dd to level 7 or 8 or a competitive team who can push u to succeed in a sport which is hard and dirty and takes massive effort to stay in
Very few people (if any) have said the coaches did not have the gymnasts best interest. Many gave said that is ts the parent's job to balance out their kid's experiences. They get that missing gym for vacations can effect their gymnastics, but the parent has to decide what is important in the long-term. Your name dropping gives you no credibility in the issue.I
I feel like no parents understand the actually commitment and hard work goes into the coaching staff. Every parent on here is happy to complain that the coaches don’t have their gymnasts best interest at heart. As Nadia’s god daughter and To call svetlana my “aunt” who isn’t my aunt but family friend you should all be disappointed in yourselves to try and understand a coaches aspect
Well, they planned the trip before being offered a JO spot, so did not know that routines are learned in July. Also, families take vacations in the summer becasue of school. Sumemr is teh only tiem kids don't have school. When would you suggest they take their trip? This is what I am trying to say op said they are going away during July when all routines are learnt. Why go away during such a specific time. If you take time off and u want to succeed in the sport don’t do it during specific times
1. The girl is ALREADY on the team.So if you want to go away on holidays that’s fine. But do not take it out on the coaches if they want to choose another gymnast for the team ur dd wants to be on. And do not be upset about a centres choice to have rules about taking time off in the gym. Gymnastics is a hard *** sport and no one other then gymnasts themselves can understand that. No training outside of the gym is the same no matter what you may think or how many programs your coaches give you.
If you want time off each year to travel. Either do it after your dds competitive season. If that’s the sport you want her in. Or take her out of the competitive side because ur coaches are right. I. The competitive sport of gymnastics if u want to succeed in the sport it is a lifestyle commitment. If it’s just for fun. Do what u and ur family want
Actually, if the policy was common, it wouldn't do any good to change gyms.Wh

Just so you aren't scared off from Chalkbucket entirely, this isn't the way most threads go. You asked a reasonable question. In between a bit of crazytrain there should be some helpful info. Enjoy your vacation this summer, and good luck to your DD in her L4 season!
